1st time I have seen that.

What does that mean? First time I ever heard that.

Very unusual.
Anybody have a clue?

Trough is further south than Model's indicated. Expect more East shifts

Not good for points from New Port Richey south. Could mean sooner and stronger impacts.

It's had a spiral character since the very start, and so far has not closed off an eyewall. Levi Cowan discussed this in his video. This is apparently something not common, but it happens.

Just think about having hurricane conditions for 36 hrs like the GFS and Euro show the Tampa Bay area having, that could be stressful for you family even if you are not in the evacuation zone.

If I lived in the Tampa area or nearby I'd be planning a short (hopefully) vacation somewhere else. It's so hard when the forecast looks like a disaster and I think most of us have a hard time believing the worst will happen. I remember this with Harvey and that did not turn out well. Worse case is you waste some money in a hotel for a few days, best case you prevent a lot of misery if this turns out as bad as it seems.

CDO expanding nicely, latest frames of satellite indicate. Also looks like an almost due N heading (not to beat a dead horse btw). Possibly 350-355 degrees

That is an absurdly deep burst on the northern eyewall. I don’t think this will stay a “spiral band” for long

The inner eyewall is back again. I've rarely seen such a persistent inner eyewall in a storm that isn't even a major.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

The leading edge of that rotating hot tower is creating a hot spot in front of it on IR Sat

So a Cat 2 is the "Storm of the Century"? That is one huge chunk of hype for a developing storm. Wow.

Looks like Ian took a big jog due north if NNE in the last couple of hours, per the recon.

My son just told me that some Universal Studios hotels that do not normally allow dogs are now accepting dogs for this week.

Latent heat that will surely caused the core temp to rise pretty quickly.

I am sure they mean that it is the storm of the century for "Tampa Bay" because it could be the first Major Hurricane impacting that area in 100 years.
