Prayer will do nothing, only action will save people.
For those who can't come to help, all you can do is pray. That is what James Spann said during the April 27th, 2011 Super Outbreak.
(Sorry for being OT Mods and Admins)
Well said Ice, there's always time enough to pray, while taking action, with all due respects to everyone...

ATL: IAN - Hurricane - Discussion
Not sure if anyone noticed but Ian is also doing the thing a lot of high end storms do, the CDO is becoming kinda detached from the primary band and spinning much faster

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

I would not have noticed that, but since you pointed it out...it is doing that. I am looking at the 200 frame hi-rez satellite and it is pretty evident...wow. Also can see some small mezovorticies in the eye.

NHC 12 pm update on Ian, has the cyclone moving Northward at 10 mph. Has the forward motion of Ian slowed down just a bit, or remained the same, since the previous update at 8 am?

Ian structure looks much better after land interaction with Cuba than it did on approach.

I just looked at a live cam of the "southernmost point" marker and there are a bunch of..."not the brightest turnips in the bunch" there snapping selfies as waves crash over them.

Honestly it was only a matter of time, after recon showed a more symmetrical wind field last night. Seeing that is like getting the last duck in a row before RI commences.

NHC also said 5 degrees which is not due north but slightly east of north.

Salute!
I support the "Dawg" in good words for Mark. Despite many extraneous posts, the forums are moderated well, and most have refrained from political crapola and personal attacks on other members.
For those not familiar with Dawg.....he was not a storm chaser that likes to get great videos and such. He was a "have chain saw, will travel" responder and helper. Somehow, the dude managed to find a sheltered parking place to ride our the worst of the storm and rarely got to the impact zone two days after it hit.
Gums sends...
P.S. back on topic, this is a serious storm, but impact 75 or 100 miles further north would have been much worse WRT the surge. Most houses here in Florida from Pensacola to Key West can handle very strong wind. So as we "vets" will tetify, it's the surge causing most damage and then the loss of power and water for some perios of time that is the worse.

I hate to say it, but this reminds me of Dorian. The incredible eyewall lightning, the incredibly clear eye, the impressive microwave presentation…this is turning into an absolute monster.
I agree. This cyclone could strengthen to 125-130 knots over the next 18-24 hours.

I noticed that too and that movement sounds correct.

Re: ATL: IAN - Hurricane - Discussion
i may have missed it but there is a chance this storm tracks straight up thru the everglades at this point, can we see a Katrina style situation where it hardly weakens as it crosses the state?

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC
