Reminds me of Ian the night before its Cuba landfall. This is how it looked like:

Eye getting rounder every frame, cloud tops cooling to the north, and hot towers in the SW quad remains persistent. Looking the healthiest it has ever been.

Yep, you called it. I knew this was on point when I saw the SE eyewall’s radar reflectivity trying to catch up with the NW eyewall’s reflectivity a little after 2am CDT. Great catch!

This is has got to be the most anticipated, gut-wrenching recon flight in recent history.

I would imagine the flight crews are taking a little extra time, in planning their safest approach into Ian, and back out...

The Government of Cuba has discontinued all Tropical Storm Warnings
for Cuba.

A Weatherflow station near Sanibel Island, Florida recently
reported sustained winds of 71 mph (114 km/h) and a wind gust of
98 mph (158 km/h), and a River, Estuary, and Coastal Network
station at Redfish Pass recently reported sustained winds of 67 mph
(108 km/h) and a wind gust of 84 mph (135 km/h).

Landfall will be within the next couple hours it looks like. Intensity is between 155-160mph but the impacts will be the same regardless of the category number. Recon plane is on the way to try to get a pass in before landfall

I am doing periodic live streams from punta Gorda here.

Next stream as soon as eyewall begins. Surge and wind damage will be very high from this "cat 5".

Ian moving in for the kill now on Sanibel...Hard eyewall hammering my house as I type while safely evacuated...We have a screwed and glued pyramidal tin roof that should give Ian a challenge if he doesn't wear it down with duration...
