Some really good storm surge video and shots being streamed thus far.

Curiously though and in spite of the northern eye wall having crossed over land, I have seen no reporting of National Weather Service, Airport, or other "ground" or land based station reports depicting sustained winds of 100 mph or greater (or even gusts that come close to the advisory sustained 155 mph).

That pass by itself supports about 125-130kts considering it's likely not the strongest part of the storm. Hopefully they can get a pass through the W eyewall next

52mph gust so far at Tampa international. Family in Citrus Park reporting breezy and relatively mild conditions, but hurricane force gusts will likely make its way in once Ian make its closest approach.

The whole area around Sanibel / Punta Gorda / Port Charlotte is about to get absolutely steamrolled, I really hope everyone got out, not even to shelter, which might not even be enough for this.

The pictures from inside the calm of the eye are going to be epic. As much as I hate that people are going through this, they will be "rewarded" with a view unlike any other-the view of a hurricane's eye wall from inside the eye. The sobering and scary part of this is that the western eye wall will likely be stronger than what these people just went through on the eastern side. Hopefully they won't let their guard down.

For those watching the Fort Myers Beach cam on The Weather Channel or Severe Studios, where the water has reached cam level, here is the location:

https://www.google.com/maps/@26.4517156,-81.9515621,3a,59.6y,168.04h,83.08t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sCPVkbTWBu-fW_MCysOhIIg!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DCPVkbTWBu-fW_MCysOhIIg%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D60.604733%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192

Note that the top of the fence you can see on the flag building is actually on a raised platform.

This is maybe just tangentially related, but I'm curious what kind of camera setups these YouTubers like SevereStudios are using that are so resilient. It seems to be kind of a trade secret. Someone asked the guy and all he said he could say was they were "specialized cameras with multiple ways of transmitting" inside Pelican cases.

Do they actually make "extreme weather" cameras that can survive lots of wind and rain? I'm guessing the transmission is probably some combination of LTE cellular and maybe a wired or WI-fi connection to the internet. I can't imagine that they would be using satellite data for streaming video, because that'd be very expensive for live video.

Whatever they are using, they're resilient as hell. There's one camera in Ft. Myers Beach that keeps getting hit by waves and debris and is still transmitting.

I am not an expert, so please take this for what it's worth... which is probably close to nothing.

My son went to school in the Keys, been there many times, and have friends there. I "studied" the impacts of Irma down there very, very closely. What I learned was that those really intense winds are in an incredibly localized area. I'm talking only a mile or so, and beyond that it drops off very rapidly. You may just not have measuring stations in the very small areas that are seeing winds that high.
