The first BoM track forecast for this system really highlights the extreme uncertainty in the models at the moment. A stronger system would probably move towards the south-west while a weaker system would likely move east. The possible centre positions at day 5 are spread over a 2100 km wide area.

SHEM and unwarned on (by JTWC) systems with eyes name a more iconic duo.

Check the website https://www.metoc.navy.mil/jtwc/jtwc.html. Could have been warned maybe six hours earlier, but they did go with a 45kt initial intensity, very similar to ABOM (50kts) and did discuss RI potential, etc. which ABOM does not. So who you want to believe?

45 kt for a likely low-end hurricane…what’s even up with the agencies that monitor the SHEM? That’s twice in the last few weeks where they’ve fallen far behind a compact RI system.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Lol, looks like someone named the wrong thread. Vernon is supposed to be Invest 92S, not 99S (in fact, 99S is now 15S by JTWC). Well, the simultaneous existence of multiple systems lately can indeed be confusing.

Thread title fixed. It's now TC Anika, as named by BoM.

15S already seems to be developing an eyewall:
