Ex-Danielle west of Portugal

#201 Postby Vince_and_Grace_fan » Mon Sep 12, 2022 9:39 am

Ex-Danielle looks pretty good today, like a very small, but well-defined subtropical storm (like Alpha in 2020). Interesting that phase diagrams indicate the core will shift back toward the moderate, nearly symmetric warm phase today and tomorrow before it became much colder again thereafter.

Convection is a bit light right now and quite far from the centre. Should be within range of Portuguese radar within the next few hours; it will be interesting to see what it shows. Ultimately I don't think the NHC will classify this operationally; IMO it should've been tagged as a development possibility as soon as Danielle dissipated as models have been showing a possible subtropical transition since then. It had quite a good presentation before sunset

Ex-Danielle is currently on radar, and its appearance rather interesting IMO. Surprised there's not more discussion on it.

Appears subtropical to me. perhaps it is not quite there yet. Conditions should be unfavorable for development Imo from now on though.

Danielle has been presenting decently throughout the night, new burst of convection came through recently. Really a shame that nobody at the NHC has taken notice, I don't know why nobody has even tagged it. Maybe someone with contacts at IPMA or the NHC could ask?

There's a buoy offshore approx 20km, so at least 60ish km from Danielle registering 30 knot winds.

Heres a 3 hour loop from Meteosat-11 Proxy Vis - https://col.st/o24rC

The convection weakened a lot by afternoon as the small cyclone moved over much cooler water. It possibily was subtropical between ~06 UTC yesterday and ~12 UTC today, but I give little chance that the NHC update it in the post-season analysis.
