Just south of Tampa here, in Parrish. Bigger punch then I expected! Raining side ways - sustained winds I would guess in the 30-40mph range with higher gusts. Comparable to what we got with Irma in 2017.

Agree worse than Ian so far. Lights flickered on and off here near Indian Rocks as well. 60 mph winds reported along the beach. Seen reports of trees and fencing down. Multiple other reports of over 50 and 60 mph. The banding has just been training and back filling over Pinellas all morning.

That persistent onshore flow north of Cape Canaveral has to be doing a ton of damage. It’s been flowing like that for more than 48 hours now. Probably another 6-12 hours to go in some areas.

Irma was worse we had 90 mph with that. Worse than Ian though. You mentioned a great point, we always get it worse on and near the beaches once the winds starts coming from the NW with the open water and uninterrupted winds. often get 20 plus mph greater winds than inland Tampa. Frances and Jeanne was 70 plus due to that onshore flow coming once a system crosses the state.

We made it through (St Augustine) without any warnings but I woke up to the howling winds around 6am and was intently watching the velocity scans on my weather app. I’ll share it later but I actually captured a video screenshot of a right moving cell that came in off the ocean which was wild to watch against the main storm motions

Funny how wind fields and storm patterns work. Here in Safety Harbor we have pressure at 995, and wind a good deal worse at times than Ian.
Both PIE and TPA have picked up gusts right at 50kts.

Certainly nothing like Irma, but this outdoes Ian for North Eastern Pinellas.

Checking in from Tampa. Squally weather began late last night and is really going now. Drove to St Pete earlier this morning, at least roads were very clear. Saw one streetlight out, and crossing the bridge to St Pete was a bit gnarly with the N winds and bay stirred up. Seems worst will be later this morning and then back to a normal November day tomorrow.

In Apollo Beach, Fl area. We are seeing good rain, and 40-50mph top winds from the NW. Straight from MacDill AFB towards us. There is a distinct rotten egg (sulfur) odor in the air. It is surprisingly strong, especially in such strong winds.

Edit - Odor......... It may have blew the water out of the bay and is now picking up odor from the exposes shallow flats.

Edit/Edit - Odor........ Smells in Clearwater on beach as well (talked to coworker). So it is NOT picking up smell from the bay.

The NHC IR Sat IR, shortwave, and even water vapor images are NOT matching up with the radar image. Far more rain south of Tampa than indicated by the NCH Sat images. Normally the NCH image shows more widespread rain, but not this time. It is 68°F here currently. The cooler weather must be interfering with the IR imagery & from the visible NCH image it looks like the clouds to the south are very low.

Yeah, that huge band has been steady for quite a while now. It's been pretty gusty at times and is starting to pick up even inland.
