That angle is a killer. 10 degrees variation on the heading makes a tremendous difference in landfall.

Exactly. Ian was only a few degrees variation from expected track & the different was pretty significant.

Also for hurricane force gusts they're needed. You saw with Irma how SEFL had 90mph gusts for hours and caused a lot of power problems. We will probably see this in SWFL too. Gusts to 80-90 and with all the power grid still rigged from Ian patched together will cause issues.

While this won't be an Ian it can still cause disruption away from the center.

Looking at the cirrus, it is more ventilation than shear. I think people in the area are more of a "not again" attitude than "we need to get ready"

Watch Levi Cowan’s latest video that should wake people up. Although he does say track not set in stone so yeah wait and see. know more tomorrow

Well, I just turned TWC on. The DirecTV guide says that "Deep Water Salvage" should be on, but Dr. Knabb is on and they are talking about Idalia, for what that's worth.

I'm thinking upper TS, perhaps a Cat 1 out of this, although considering it's the Gulf I wouldn't all that surprised if it tries to ramp up more than that.

I don’t know if those recent bursts moderated the environment or if the ULAC moved into a more favorable position, but I’m not seeing anywhere near the same evidence of shear that I saw this morning. Going to be an interesting recon flight tonight, I have a feeling Idalia could be a bit stronger than she’s letting on.
