My guess is that at 18z best track Milton is definitively (i.e. by pressure AND wind speed) the strongest atlantic hurricane this year.

Can't recall SFMR being this high. Perhaps Dorian came close.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that 154 FL/177 sfmr is in the NW quad, which, in a storm on a SE heading, would technically be expected to be the weakest quadrant, right??

Yes… i believe so. We could have a 160 knot hurricane on our hands right now…. Witnessing history be made.

Man, I sure hope Tampa/St. Pete folk are taking this one seriously. I know, duh, but a lot of people who live there seem to think they have hurricane immunity based on the last 100+ years or so. As a 40+ year Houston resident, I sincerely hope they don't rely on past results to drive future ones.

Images like this one evoke a sense of awe and dread simultaneously. The vivid colors and swirling patterns highlight the raw beauty and power of nature, showcasing the precise symmetry and intense energy concentrated around the hurricane's eye. But beneath this mesmerizing image lies a stark reality: a massive storm brewing, poised to unleash its devastating force on everything in its path. What appears visually stunning from a distance is, up close, a looming catastrophe for communities bracing themselves for impact. The intricate dance of clouds and winds marks not just nature’s artistry, but also a harbinger of potential destruction and loss.
