Media needs to rethink how they do graphics.

I'm now seeing paths that make the landfall appear more western.

Maybe I am tired but I don’t see much eastward movement. Maybe the cloud tops are deceiving me.

Could be me. Looking on my phone so it’s hard to tell.

Last center recon center fix has it NNW of the previous one, it isn't moving east.

Don't follow the convection, follow the center. The only time you can visibly see the direction of movement is when the center is visible, otherwise you need radar or center fixes.

Storms from Helene now spreading across the peninsula. Looks quiet in extreme S. Florida for now but another large squall line looks like it's heading that way.

Yeah...but just look at how it's tightening up like a boa constrictor right now, you can tell it's primed for it without too much analysis. This is going to require a disaster response in an absolutely massive area, like more than 1/5th of the country because apart from the obvious coastal hazards, it looks like the flooding is going to be quite bad inland.

Looking at visible sat its hard to say but it might be just east of due north like NNNE.

Looks like it's a tad more west now on the NHC website. Especially further inland. Now it goes up the Georgia bama border just on the Georgia side.

School being out tomorrow was a 50/50 in my mindset, the mindset that it's been over 100 years since we actually had a storm that shelters would be needed for in the county area i live in and i think back then, we the tech we have now, they would have known. It all works out for me, my son is home sick today and the days he would have missed are off anyway, sucks for him though, he can't go outside and play like all the other kids tomorrow and Friday.,

Theyre not just closed for shelters. I'm much further away from landfall and our schools are closed because it's not safe to operate School busses full of children in tropical storm conditions. Nor is it safe for children to walk or ride their bikes home from school during these types of conditions. I doubt many kids will be outside playing tomorrow.

And yet Miami-Dade and Broward will be open. Guess in their “abundance of caution” they believe waiting at bus stops and walking to school will be fine here.

Yet this is the norm for SoFlo. Anyone who has lived there ( PB, Broward, and MDade counties) for a while knows that for just tropical storms... it's bau. I can't count the times we have had tropical storms or on the outer bands of a hurricane moving through, but nothing closes nor even slows down.

That may change tho.....this is an evolving event....impacts will be widespread unfortunately....im not sure how these school districts make decisions...regarding Helene....but im sure they are being advised by many agencies.....

The decision won't change unless it is a drastic change. I work for Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the superintendent met with Broward's superintendent and they made the decision together. I also am a union representative and we pushed for it but it was a no. The only thing that changed is that outdoor events are to be moved indoors.

Hurricane #Helene is developing a nascent eye on satellite imagery, albeit with a still fragmented eyewall. Central pressure continues to fall at a steady pace, now 975mb. Helene is still developing its inner core structure and mixing out some dry air that was ingested this morning. Eventually, after this dry air fully mixes out and the eyewall fully materializes, Helene will likely begin intensifying at a more rapid pace later tonight or tomorrow morning.

I just stared at the visible loop for ten minutes like a lunatic and ya the overall motion appears to be due north. I think there might have been a slight eastern wobble for a minute but overall due N.

I use this to sat loop to track lat and long, if you go to the web site you can stop the loop and single advance them you can see the fixes and how the lat and long changes in the box in the upper right corner. Not sure how accurate but it usually correlates to the NHC fixes the times I've checked it.
