I’m on the 890s train as well. This does not look like a cyclone that is peaking to me. This presentation is definitely S2K avatar-worthy.

A P3 is not as robust as a C130. Praying for those guys.

Place your bets everyone, what will recon find?
I’m going with the very lowest 900s with evidence of an outer eyewall.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Flying in a hurricane hunter plane sometimes feels like it would be a fun experience. But I do not envy those people right now, no matter how seasoned you are, that has to be pretty scary.

If that outer eyewall is the source of that massive pink shelf, do we expect it to peak even further after completion?

I just looked at my local forecast and it's only calling for 40mph winds here and not a whole lot rain. I think we got more rain the past 3 days than we are forecast to see from Milton. Fingers crossed barring any south shift we will be ok. Stay safe!
Good to know. Leaving Manatee Co. tomorrow for Stuart. Thanks for the local update.
Here's the local

Lost everything on 1st floor and garage from Helene. Mountain of debris at curb. A truck with claw picked up about 1/4 before leaving with a full truck. Maybe tomorrow they will remove the rest of the storm missiles and beaver dam fodder. I am so exhausted after prepping, salvaging, cleaning, hauling, prepping again, and packing, I may sleep through Milton's landfall.

Guessing 903 mb, 181 FL winds (would translate to approximately 180 at the surface).

Got my eyes on moving right into Hurricane Alley: Florida.
Re: ATL: MILTON - Hurricane - Discussion: 180 mph
893mbs for central pressure is my guess and may make a run into the 880s at some point on these recon missions.

There may be a prolonged radio silence period before we know.

Right about now, that pilot is wishing he hadn't just eaten that cold whopper that he picked up at Burger King before the flight

Just back in time for work to witness historic recon passes. Milton's current IR look is beyond words.
