Surely there will be a special advisory any minute making this official? We’re truly witnessing history here

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

Zooming in on this 1200 × 845 image, I found that the eye is only 9 pixels.

I'd at least put out a Tropical Cyclone Update.

because 165 knots equals 189.979 mph, IF they increased it to that speeds, would they round up to 190 or round down to 185?

Perhaps the craziest dropsonde, like, ever.
Patricia still takes the take for me, but this is close.

Rita, you're next.
This knocks a whole bunch of storms down a peg. Rita is the record holder for the Gulf of Mexico.

Crazy that only a few days ago this looked like a "sheared mess". Goes to show what 24 hours over rocket fuel (29C SSTs) can do for a tropical cyclone's structure

I'd go with 899mb, 190mph at the next update.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Latest dropsonde is even more extreme - a 188 kt gust just above the surface.

899 is insane and I still feel like they missed the center by a bit there. Interested to see what the next center fix finds

Milton has to be the official poster child for the cliche “Well, that escalated quickly…”
