Wind damage in the Big Bend was localized. Based on my drive along Beach Rd, both Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee managed to avoid the RMW - although that did not save them from surge. The RMW passed over Big Bend WMA with devastating tree damage, no doubt on par with many historical cat 4s.

Good morning from the Appalachian mountains of northeast Tennessee! Prayers and good vibes for those that have already been in Helene’s path. I’m about 15 minutes from the western NC line and we’ve been rain drenched for days. Creeks and rivers are up and overflowing. Winds are starting to get pretty gusty. Trees in the area started coming down yesterday afternoon and overnight. Today will definitely be worst as the rain and wind pick up.

Time to go build my porch furniture fort to keep it from being a hazard. Very different from the days of living on the coast. My hurricane prep is just a little different here lol.

Hello neighbor! Knoxville checking in. Same story here as it's already been raining for days I guess from that other low pressure system? My home is surrounded by trees and I hope they make it through this one. I wish I had a generator right now but it's too late for that now! Best wishes to you and everyone else affected by this storm.

Well, I was very surprised to get flooded and have to be evacuated from my house. Our community was hit incredibly hard. Our infrastructure took a critical hit. I narrowly missed getting swept into the waters when they rushed in and ran like crazy to get to our porch. It all happened so fast. Hope you’re doing ok and fared well from Helene.

I'm not sure what a good conversion is between 2.25 meter and 10 meter winds, but one instrument did record 64 kts pretty far inland, which seems like a good piece of data.

The values on that Wikipedia table are not adjusted for inflation. So, Katrina definitely did more monetary damage than Harvey.

Cool little site I found (not sure who did it) with a streetview comparison of before and after Helene in a few coastal communities. The after images were taken in late October so some of the damage has been cleared out but it's still a very interesting thing to look at: https://helene24.com/
