ATL: MILTON - Post-Tropical - Discussion

Robert Ray from Fox Weather is live in Bradenton where a tree hit his press vehicles. While Milton breaks the streak of hurricanes rapidly intensifying in the Gulf of Mexico upon landfall (Milton had his RI episode thankfully beforehand), by NO MEANS, does it downplay Milton’s onslaught on the Tampa and Sarasota area. First landfall/eyewall since 1921. And that tornado outbreak was crazy. I lost track on how many tornado warnings there were. Stay safe to whoever is under the gun. Milton means business.

1921 was the last hurricane to directly hit Pinellas County, but there was a hurricane in 1946 which also made landfall in Sarasota and was the last hurricane to directly hit the Tampa Bay metro area prior to Milton.

Winds here in Clearwater are gusting close to or over 100mph. I think the north west eyeewall isn't far away. Lights are flickering but still on for now..

Where are you getting this? 47 kt is the peak wind reported so far at Clearwater Airpark and 55 kt at the Clearwater Beach buoy. There is a report of 70 knot gusts from KPIE which is technically Clearwater but just barely.

Are extreme wind warnings in hurricanes a new thing? I always figured hurricane warnings were enough when it came to hurricanes themselves, and extreme wind warnings were for non-tropical systems. I think Helene had them too, but don't remember any before that.

The first time I remember seeing one was during Matthew I believe

Another thing to note in Josh’s video is how odd it is for the lights to still be on inside the eye. The infrastructure around downtown Sarasota must be all underground and well weather hardened!

How is there still electricity? With Ike and Rita, the entire Beaumont area was without power, most for weeks and even months for some.

Outside of tornado damage - has anyone scene anything impressive from this other than some windy conditions, downed trees and some heavy rain?

I assume now that its on land, the worst has been experienced , so genuinely curious who is going to need the most help to recover from this?

In The Villages (near Ocala), quite gusty from the north, steady rain. Watching my house in St. Pete from webcam -- heavy rain, winds not that bad on the south side of the house where the webcam is. Lights are still on there as of 8:59 pm, but a mile away friends have just lost power, and parts of their pool cage are blowing away.

I love Josh and all those guys. If you don’t want to give him any attention probably don’t watch or post about him? I haven’t seen him at all today more on accident though. I only listened to 5 seconds of that so maybe I missed something. I’ve been more tuned in to intense feeds
