Why are they panicking? It's not a hurricane, or even a tropical storm yet. And it's not even going there.

I’m just hopeful I can still get 2-3” out of this in Wharton County because I’ve only had about 3” since the start of May.

The worst of the derecho missed us a tad, I've replayed David Paul/KHOU livecast, the radial velocity wasn't terrible. I am pretty sure based on velocity away from the radar, and the increased damage, a tornado travelled from 290/610 into the Heights two actual severe storms at my house, both worse elsewhere in Harris County, was the price to be paid for a wet May.

I mention I think Houston Metro is 1 to 2 inches, max?

Because we've had so many "events" over the last 2 months that have brought torrential rains and flooding due to overflow and dam releases. The TV labels them all as "Severe Weather Alert" days including this which is a whole different thing. The new transplants don't know the difference.

Gasoline and bottled water (we save empty gallon jugs in case we need to top off with tap water) is a must. Ice chests filled with ice cubs and blue plastic freezer things mean grilled meat for a week w/ no power. I sent my wife and kids to Austin a couple of days after Ike, had a 357 I borrowed from a friend at work. I stood guard reading cheap paperbacks in my driveway and having BBQ. It wasn't hot after Ike, which was good, I used a San Judas Tadeo votive candle for a bathroom night light. It was sort of an adventure. I use CPAP now, not having electricity probably means I leave w/ my wife and remaining kids at home for her BIL's house in Kyle.

Channel 13 has that. They don’t do it to cause panic. It’s just there for people to be alert about the weather on that day.

Havent seen literally anyone panic here, most dont even know about the PTC. Maybe its a small isolated group somewhere but everything is just going as normal here.

Some surge being seen around near Galveston from the NW lobe brining in the winds and rain.

PTC 1 is starting to get some banding on the south side of the CoC. If it keeps up it will concentrate some vorticity down there and help develop a more compact LLC. I think this is where the curvature of the Bay of Campeche helps as well. I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing Dvorak classifications start up soon either.

Model predictions looking pretty good so far with the dual-lobed system setup:

PTC One has a very elongated vorticity at the 925mb level.

I know this is a random question, but is it true this storm has absorbed another one? I saw some people mention that.

It's a little bit disturbing that the water is that high even without a tropical storm. But I guess that's the end of Galveston unprotected by the seawall. Illustrates very obviously why they needed it :D

Yup, PTC1 looked much better yesterday evening. Starting to think that not much is going to come of it. It is just to broad of a circulation. As noted in the 4pm NHC discussion the strongest winds are 360 miles to the north of the estimated center. Just some wind and heavy rain for Texas in the coming days......MGC

With less organization, might it drift further North/Northwest?
