Looks like she’s past her peak. At this rate of deterioration (dare I say it? Lol!) may not be a hurricane at landfall. I know I’m tempting fate by saying this but that is certainly a rapid decline in appearance and rise in BP, 7 mb climb in just a couple hours.
Well this aged like milk. cat 2 knocking on Louisiana’s door! Although I thought it was weakening too.
Looks like crap on IR but it did get to spin faster.
So, you could say the theory held up,
Ionospheric heating vertically raised the atmosphere which subsequently caused her vort to expand vertically which made her spin faster.
This is a mechanical effect.
Convection is more related to shear, low-level moisture, etc.
How's that for a spin?

Pressure fell again a little this pass - 970.2 mb extrapolated just offshore. Highest flight level wind as well, at 102 kt. No SFMR data for the 102 kt flight level wind reading.
Appears to have intensified until the moment of landfall.

Drop supported 971 mb, in line with the slight drop between passes for extrapolated pressure.

Lots of great storm chasers on today on YouTube. Looks like some beef in the eastern part of the eyewall. If this ends up pulling north after passing New Orleans look out under it.

Category 2 landfall confirmed.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Not to be 'that guy' but I just watched the Chief Met on WWLTV state that they are only seeing sustained 41mph winds inside the eyewall, as recorded from their mobile weather station.
their mobile weather station is a weather station set up on a tripod in a parking lot...... SMH

Haha. So many great mets historically from that station. Chris Franklin is pretty good too. But that’s a fail. StormRunner media is rolling through the eyewall and that’s easily 65-70 sustained.

Yeah I was saying the same thing here in Central Lafourche for awhile. Francine formally introduced herself about 30 minutes ago. She doesn’t appear to have a very large wind field but she’s pushing some wind. Were nearly out of the leading edge eye wall.

You may not remember but at the tail end of 2005 season we had a fella on the board doing his space weather stuff and he predicted the last storm of the season 3 weeks in advance! Many on the board scoffed me included but he had it down to the day after that I said hmmnnn....don't know
Did he do it more than once? It's virtually impossible now to predict most space-weather phenomena three weeks in advance, and it was even more virtually impossible almost 20 years ago...

Nothing that I post here should ever be treated as a forecast or anything resembling one. Please check with your local NWS office or the NHC for forecasts, watches, and warnings.

Re: ATL: FRANCINE - Hurricane - Discussion
Lost power at 2:30PM in Springfield, most likely due to poor power line maintenance. They had it back on at 5:00pm but my internet is down. I have my camera recording since 5:30pm and will post up a timelapse when I can. The rain and wind are starting to pickup a little here, so I had to coax my 4 dogs to go out one last time before it starts getting bad.

Stay safe blade. We got leading edge. Always weird when you can hear the wind before it gets to you because sound is faster. Getting into TS category here in Mid City.

I just looked at data stations and the pressure gradient looks tighter than I expected with how sheared it has become. Looks like Francine has a solid core.
