just read the above in the link provided by Steve C. Scary to even think about esp. since I drive a full size dodge truck with a 345 hp hemi motor. Not real good on gas to say the least.
$3.00 gas? $4.00 gas?

LOOP is connected to over 50 percent of the U.S. refinery capacity and has offloaded over 5 billion barrels of foreign crude oil since it's inception.

Shuting down the LOOP would be Terrible but almost as horrific would be all the refineries that would need to be shut down for fear of power loss to Catcracker units. I worked in one, of I think about 8 in this area from Baton Rouge to south of N.O. and if the technologly hasn't changed they bring these units down. Someone can probably provide more info.

This is very alarming. To makes things worse I searched for
horse and buggy on eBay and its mostly just toys. There is an Amish Horse and Buggy driver's manual however which could be helpful.

Not in the industry but I do believe that they still shut down the cat crackers. I think Exxon here in BR goes into storm mode and begins shutdown many hours before hurricane conditions are expected. Don't know how many hours that is but my guess would be 12-24 hours.

PS getting them back online after the storm can really be a bugger or so I understand.

Here in Orlando, a local channel was running a story Thursday 25AUG, about how the storm in the GOM could disrupt the flow of gas supplies to the state of Florida. Cha-ching! Man, I can see the $3 PLUS signs already, and you know that it will not go back under three bucks - ever. YAWN,
and as always, you can still go anywhere you like and buy all of the gas you want - at the "tight" supply or "disrupted" transport prices, of course.
