Nalora, I'd have to do some research on that one, but what I remember ... the initial summary was the setup was actually more conducive for severe thunderstorms but as it wore later in the afternoon, the evident threat that tornadoes were likely prompted what I can remember SPC to issue a VERY HIGH risk area in Central OK that day.

I am telling you I remember on May 3 thinking the same thing I thought this morning.....
"It is Texas' turn..."
Then I remembered that the prediction map had the severe threat circle over Amarillo, but the storms formed down near Lawton and came to town.

Thanks, Nalora ... I couldn't find that ... I was looking through the archived SPC outlooks and mcd's along with a WW status advisory.
Amazing ... already SPC this morning has a HIGH risk when on May 3rd, 1999 ... the outlooks were only in the slight risk category ....
It was only after the volatility of the situation was literally exploding, the HIGH risk went up...

I know...I may just be a nervous Nelly.
I know that most of the time if the storms FORM over there in western Oklahoma, they generally BUILD and come towards me.
I remember in the morning on May 3, we were just in the slight risk area.
I remember sitting in my back yard at 4 pm under clear skies and looking SW and seeing the storm build and saying to my brother: "That one looks serious, think I will plug a tape in the VCR, I might catch something big."
(My other brother lives up in CT, and he misses Oklahoma Springtime weather madness, so I sometimes tape it for him so he can hear the warnings go off)
Ten minutes into that tape the tornado touches down in Verdin, Oklahoma for the first time. The chopper chasers are on it, and all the local stations go fulltime uninterrupted weather. And I have every bit of the local coverage on tape.
Anyway I am just nervous....

You know what it is like? It is kind of like you are going on a long trip and you keep checking and double checking to make sure you did everything.
That is what it is like for me when I know there is the possibility of tornadoes.
Are my batteries fresh in my flashlight and radio?
Did I bring anything in from the yard that might easily become a projectile?
Are the pillows and blankets ready to throw into my "safe place"?
Do my relatives all know there is a chance for storms today?
It is just an uneasy nervous feeling....

Yes Nalora, it is better to be safe than sorry. A lot of people do not do what you do and then are left unprepared after the storm has hit!

Speaking of later this afternoon and evening...just looked at the latest model runs including the RUC and frankly, it's frightening ...
The low looks to close off at all levels and should make this a very slow mover ... but the wind profiles become less conducive for tornadoes after tonight and early tomorrow... however, this afternoon, evening, and tonight look to be very rough in West TX, and Western OK, with the continuation of the severe weather in Central OK during the overnight hours.
