CNN's reporter in NO sounds like she has been through hell

all sorts of cries for help in the dark, people with severed limbs, water still rising

Just saw the same CNN report...very sobering! This reporter was very emotional about what she has seen. It's going to be a long night for a lot of people...

There is a report from the Sun Herald of 40 dead in Biloxi . . I'm not familiar enough with Mississippi to know whether it is in Harrison County or not

These folks were in an apartment bldg there.

CNN reporter just stated that good samaritans pulled a body out of the water in NO. He said that many trapped in attics and rescue underway, many running out of air. Can smell the gas from broken lines. Said 3-500 trapped in homes. In NO. Edit again. This is a grim report coming from this reporter on CNN right now. He said hundred or so will be dead by morning. Says the water is STILL rising.

if 40 of these deaths were in Biloxi we could be in for some much higher #s given the really bad weather was to Biloxi's west in places like gulf port, long beach, waveland, st. louis bay, pass christian, sidell, and then there's the south eastern tip of Louisiana where we also have not had much in the way of communications

Folks, I'm afraid the death toll will be a multiple of what has been reported thus far. :(

Again, likely the total death toll for this storm will approach or top 1,000. I hope this shuts the mouths of the mouthbreathers claiming this storm was "overhyped" or "a dud". Realistically, 1,000 may be a low-end number.

this will likely become the costliest storm on record and one of the deadliest storms on record.

Let's see, as I recall from my visits to my best friend and with a little assistance from Yahoo directories - Harrison includes Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, and Pass Christian. Hancock includes Bay Saint Louis, Pearlington, Waveland, Kiln, Lakeshore.

So coming from Louisiana, Hancock is the first county, Harrison is the second on the coast.

You are correct soney...the scary part is I have not heard one damage report online or on TV from any city in Hancock County...I shudder to think what happened there..even the TV Hurricane Chasers avoided that area today

Remember 5 deaths already counted, plus three during the evacuation. That's 58...

Once 9th ward/sidell/bay st louis/other areas report in..the death figure will rise :(

From a Yahoo!Article

"Jim Pollard, spokesman for the Harrison County emergency operations center, said 50 people were killed by Katrina in his county, with the bulk of the deaths at an apartment complex in Biloxi. Three other people were killed by falling trees in Mississippi and two died in a traffic accident in Alabama, authorities said."

This doesn't even include Gulfport yet. My god.

The CNN met said that there are million dollar homes in the bay st louis..and they say the waves we're highest between sidell and gulfport.

That is scary..the flyby's tomorrow will tell the tale.

There is also no news from below Golden Meadow/Leeville (Lafourche parish), Grand Isle (Jefferson parish), Nor Lower Plaquemines parish, other than rumors that below Empire, there is nothing left. This is right where Katrina made first landfall. I guess I'm most concerned as these are areas we know well and have many friends from there. But the whole lack of word thing is really scary.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring news, if not from the media, from contacts we have that I know are going out tomorrow to survey the damage by helicopter.

Hasn't Alabama reported a few deaths related to Katrina also? Georgia has 1 death related to Katrina. 1 is too much and the numbers from MS will be very depressing.
