The post was a thinly veiled political jab at the President of the United States. Politically motivated posts such as these are not allowed on these boards. This is a weather-related forum. Politicians don't dictate the weather. Now, it is appropriate to discuss what one person vs. another person did or did not do in preparation/response to a storm, but when the posts start becoming overtly politically motivated--as was the case with the thread in question--a line has been crossed that should not be crossed. You will quickly learn that the mods here do not have a high tolerance for that sort of thing and such threads are expediently dealt with--i.e. deleted.

I though normal response was to lock the thread and perhaps delete/censor the offending post. Not the whole thread was 'thinly disguised attack at Bush'. Discussing managment of recovery surely fits well into 'hurricane recovery and aftermath' , even if it may be somehwat controversial.
I lived 19 years under communism and have had more then enough of this self-censorship crap.

I understand and know the rules regarding political threads - I just don't understand how the thread in question was political, or had anthing whatsoever to do with President Bush or any other elected politican. The discussion was about a police chief who chose to block a bridge and refuse to allow hundreds of people who were trying to evacuate New Orleans out of the city. People were discussing whether or not he was justified in doing that, what his motives may have been and whether or not there were more reasonable and humane alternatives.
I guess I don't see what this police chief has to do with President Bush, a political party or even FEMA. He is an individual who made a decision that many people find distasteful and even inhumane. President Bush didn't make that decision - the police chief did. What is political about that???
PS - Mods, I am not trying to start a fight here, I just seriously don't understand how anything in that thread was political. I would seriously like to know so I can avoid posting in what are considered political threads from this point on. Lemme know what the political part was - here or by PM - so I can aviod the topic from now on. Thanks!

The United States is a free nation and your right to PUBLICALLY express your opinions and beliefs is protected by the United States Constitution. However, this is a PRIVATE message board. If you want to post here, you have to abide by the rules. And IMHO, had the mods attempted to delete all of the politically charge rhetoric from the post in question, there wouldn't have been much left to read.

We're obviously recalling different posts. The thread I recall related to Halliburton contracts for post-Katrina recovery and it was implied that the POTUS was somehow personally financially benefiting from the damage created by Katrina due to some alleged connection with Halliburton.

I am referring to the thread about the police chief on the bridge: The original thread is being reviewed by staff.
Keep in mind that this is a Weather Board. There are going to be many stories of the disaster bringing out the worst in people. That's really not why this forum was set up.
This is a explosive story that also has the potential to bring out the worst in people. We are not going to let that happen.
This thread is being locked now. Thank You.
