Birds, Animal Behavior in Florida and Developing TD18

Animals have a sixth sense. They know when something is coming. I noticed here in Boca Raton there are NO birds to be found. That means something nasty is coming nearly 100% of the time.

How about everybody else? What are you noticing?

I remember reading news reports from Indonesia about native tribes who survived the tsunami when the "civilized" areas didn't. Why? Because they saw all the critters running for the hills a good ten minutes before the tsunami hit, and they knew through their oral tradition exactly what that meant.

Good point, almost no animals were found dead in the tsunami damage because they left before the waves reached the shore.

I believe it. As I mentioned in the other post, I haven't seen or heard a single bird outside today. My cats aren't too affected and are just sleeping the day away. Other than that though, I haven't noticed too much else. The lack of birds is a strange thing though with the nice day it is outside.

Don't you know....birds don't like Boca...its too snooty for them there...they prefer Delray...lol j/k I haven't noticed any weird behavior in animals yet.

I will say this. Just before Katrina hit, I didn't see a single bird. Not one. I didn't see a bird for at least 3 straight days. And the day before she hit was the eeriest of all. A beautiful day and not a single bird flittering in the sky.

I'm afraid that is what we are going to see. I'm not trying to alarm everybody but the scenario that is developing here is not looking good at all for South Florida.

Me either, but then again I'm not looking for it. I guarantee the second I go looking, I will see NO birds around.

No birds, my very frisky kitten has been sleeping all day.... I am going out now to double check.

I really do believe in the wildlife instincts theories, their senses are much more aware of their surroundings.

Oh Rita...Rita...Rita...What a system.

Satellite imagery this afternoon indicates that the inner structure of the system is gradually, but impressively, becoming better organized. The LLC appears to be slowly reforming further north (near 23.4N 72.4W) near the center of the cloudmass, which suggests an expanding outflow pattern. The earlier ULL that had been disrupting its structure is traveling westward away from the system. Once that inner core consolidates, strengthening is likely.

Future Rita will now only be left standing by itself, unbothered, in the center of a very warm and favorable ocean near the Bahamas. This area of the ocean has been known for decades to be able to spawn some of the most rapidly deepening cyclones we've seen in the Atlantic. We could be looking at a rapidly deepening storm over the 90* SSTs if this favorable pattern (as suggested by the models) persists.

PLEASE listen to your local authorities and if you have to evacuate, DO SO. This could be a potentially serious and dangerous situation.

Please continue to monitor this situation CAREFULLY

You can laugh all you want to but the situation is very dire. Please don't take this system lightly, the animals sure are not. Here is a comment from Hyperstorm in another thread, who in my opinion, is very knowledgeable and a solid forecaster.

I agree boca, and that was a great post by hyperstorm. I just had to laugh at THead's post though because I got this mental image of my 2 cats boarding up their litter box and carting their food in there....just cracked me up.

I mentioned this earlier, on August 19, 2005 in Fergus, Ontario my friends birds were unusually hyper during the day,. He couldn't figure out why, then a 1 mile wide F2 tornado clipped the town of about 17,000. Also, I believe another member from this board said a friend near Orangeville, Ontario (near Fergus) his dog paced the driveway that day. Animals are strange, in Woodstock, Ontario on August 7, 1979 hundreds of dogs in the city of 25,000 at the time went crazy around supper time. At nearly 7pm, an F4 and F3 tornado levelled the city.

I'm wnw of NO. As Katrina headed towards the NO, MS and Al the birds were silent and also the crickets and locusts. All we had were some tropical winds, a few gusts and little rain.

We have seen more birds since Katrina where I live. Hardly ever saw a woodpecker, and now we have three or four very strange red headed long necked ones. I wonder if birds can migrate or be blown this far from a storm.
