Landfall still pointing near Matagorda, TX (or just a bit north) which is roughly 80-90mi sw of downtown Houston (based on google maps). So if a track like this were to verify while Hou may not see the strongest of the winds the surge along the coast will still be significant. Remember how bad Mobile, AL flooded from Katrain and they were nearly 100mi east of the center if I recall correctly.
Additionally 50kt winds forecast to extend out 150mi in the north quad near landfall and 64kt winds (hurricane force) 60-75mi in the north quad. So landfall 80-90mi to the south will put much of Hou in near hurricane force winds and as you go farther south in Harris Ct. conditions would only worsen. All it takes is a 50mi jog north and all of Harris Ct. / Hou gets hurricane force winds. Current 411pm CDT forecast from NWS Houston is calling for 50-60mph winds by Fri night.
