To people in LA, it looks like its heading North, to people in Texas it looks like its heading West. Some call this -removed-, but I believe most think of a worst case scenario for themselves as to not get caught offgaurd. It's probably better than everyone denying that its coming towards them.
Btw, I'm in Houston and it is clearly making a west jog now.

Soup, use this satellite link. It updates every 7 minutes or so...just refresh every now and then. Make it animate really fast...it's easier to see her wobbles.

Yes I've noticed the same thing for a little while, the IR and visible have both improved. Looks like she is trying to rebuild.

There are plenty that do some actual -removed-. Then there are some of us that really try to take an objective view on what is happening.
Obviously Rita started moving north of the NHC's forecasted path last night into this morning. Now it is back to moving in line with their track. The track is far to close to Galveston, and until it takes a true NW course, then Galveston is still in the cross-hairs.

Yeah, when some one gets adamant that it is making a move somewhere, first thing I do is look at the location of the poster ... usually (not always) tells you what's going on with that.

Not from La or Texas. But if you have been looking at the loops all morning you can see it is going NW. You will see they will move it more to the right by tonight. It will NOT go into NOLA but west of the mississippi river to the Texas line.

Exactly. It's getting to the point where I don't read the posts anymore. I just look at the person's location and can pretty much tell what's going to be said. The funny thing is, I think it even affects the pro mets (at least the one's on TV) sometimes.

It may or it may not. When computer models don't agree on landfall, I don't see how humans can.

Saying prayers for everyone in the path of Hurricane Rita and wishing I could open my home to someone in need of a place to stay. We just moved into a much larger Apt. and have a spare bedroom and extra sleeper sofa.
P.S. I sincerly apologize to all the people I have offended by posting
HOLY CRAP!!!
We have all never seen anything like this Hurricane Season and I've just been overwhelmed by all of the activity, breaking records and stuff.

NBC has their intensity at landfall as a cat 3. I think this is really a bad thing for them to be reporting. Many people will stay for a cat 3, but not a cat 4. I bet there are plenty who see that and say since it is going to weaken, I will stay. I am wondering if they will even feel bad if they get it wrong, and people die because they said a cat 3 and it ends up coming in as a 4 or higher?
