Majority of Northeast Wi is under a snow emergency meaning ABSOLUTELY no one should be on the roads and there are NO parking on city streets. We got a grand total of 11".... some spots in the driveway were 13". Regardless of the amount.... it is the light and fluffy snow.... it has been blowing around quite prefusely! We are also under a blizzard warning until midnight...

Shannon - you met the one and only Mike Seidel?! Very impressive. Just wait until furry hears about this.....
I was thinking about you when I heard WI got slammed. And just when you all thought winter might be over huh?
I'm heading north tomorrow, taking Laura and her cousin Bridget, skiing at Mad River Ski Resort in Belfountaine/Zanesfield, Ohio. The weather is going to be so cold, very frigid but they want to go Saturday, not Sunday since this is a holiday weekend. I'm hoping the crowds stay away since it will be 8 in the morning and only top out near 20. Brrrr! We have so much packed, extra sox, gloves, etc. for the day.
No sleeping in tomorrow for me. But Sunday and Monday I will - oh yeah, big time. When you get up at 5:30 each day, you need a few days to sleep until 7 or 8, at least!
Have a nice President's Day Weekend everyone. Stay warm, if you can! Me, I'm back to wearing my thermals, tucked into my sox, and then warm cords/sweaters, etc. I'm such a freeze cat but oddly enough, I love winter. Figure that one out...he he

LOL, have a good sleep-in, tomorrow, Mary - better listen to Jeremy, too -
wear those thermals to bed! Single digit temps - whoah! I'm whining and
carrying-on about mid-teen lows here, tonight!
I got feisty and rearranged my bedroom, today. I got tired of the head
of my bed being just under the west-facing window - in the warm months,
I hear the wind and rain pelting it, right over my head. Last night, I heard
the sleet pelting the same window, right over my head. I've often laid in
bed and wondered...hmmmm....if something comes through that window,
it's landing on my head! LOL, call me paranoid - I moved the bed away from
the window, and, spent a couple of hours dragging the heavy chest-of-drawers
to the other side of the room, inch-by-inch. I got it done, finally! The bedroom
actually looks bigger, now, and, I feel more safe!
I'm leaving some hot chocolate and s'mores for anyone who drops by.
Have a safe and warm night, wxbuddies!

yes I met Mike... unfortunately I left my camera at home
He did mention to the producers that I was standing out in the cold with him and his photog.
I found out that I didn't get the Rhinelander job.... it was worth a shot. Actually it worked out perfect because I'm still on activation orders until April 3rd... meaning I have to be at down at base Mon-Fri until April 3rd. I'm working my YMCA job on weekends... that way I can keep my FREE membership. I'm still taping on the chroma key (green screen) every Sunday... that definitely helps! The News Director at Rhinelander told me to keep sending tapes up to her... that is nice to know.
Ha Ha.... Shannon is sharing the wealth with everyone.... you guys can have the cold... wind chill warnings for the past couple of days including tonight... yea, that's fun... you know its cold when your buggers freeze!

Hey all - yes we had a great time Eric. Let me first say, I don't ski! Should have I guess, since I love snow and winter. But ya know I'm an old geezer now, I joke I'm saying our family money - lift ticket/ski rental and hospital bills! LOL
The day started off with a real surprise - an inch of snowfall and it was still coming down. What was supposed to be just flurries turned into more. Temps were frigid so it stuck and the roads were very slick. Being a Saturday, road crews didn't rush out to salt. So here we were bravely heading out in those conditions. I'm sure my Northern or New England buds would laugh - an inch of snowfall? But our city is full of hills, no matter where you go, you have to prethink your route. Cincy isn't flat like it is for Chicago, for one example. We saw many accidents. Jeremy will likely know about Kentucky - interstates alerts said I 75 Southbound was closed, to reroute if going that way. Since we were going north by about 2 hours, we were in the clear. Within 30 minutes, no snow. Freaky!
It was one long day though - an 18 hour day if you factor in travel time. Worth it, yes. But exhausting just the same. I have no sympathy from Laura, who was braving the slopes in below 0 wind chills and real temps around 12.
Finally, we keep saying - why do these mini-storms come on weekend days? If it had been a school day I know for a fact schools would have closed.
I was sad to learn about the tour bus crash in Oklahoma. And here in Kentucky, a motor home lost control, hit a parked car and flipped. Driver killed, his wife hospitalized. That was over by Jeremy.

Kentucky is hills too. In Florence and Erlanger, there are no significant hills. But east, south and north are different entirely. Especially along the river in Northern Boone and Kenton Counties, you will find hills.

When buggers are thawing out do they drip?? Did you mean boogers?? I've never had my buggers or my boogers freeze!!!!! Must be the hot flashes.
Mary, I didn't know there was a ski resort in Zanesville. I'm so glad you had a great time. That I-70 can get pretty nasty when it freezes so I'm glad the snow stopped at about that point. It was freezing over the weekend here too. Light snow hit Saturday morning and caused some minor accidents. Glad I was snug as a bug in a rug at home.
Well I stayed home all weekend and made some chicken tortellini soup with spinach. Yummy I'll leave some on the stove so that all "yunz guys" with freezing temps can warm your bellies.
Have a great day.

Karan - this resort is the one locals down here used to refer to as Belfountaine. Or at least my friends used to ski there, in their 20s, over 20 years ago. I never heard them say Mad River Ski Resort. So when Laura was looking up another ski resort several hours from here, she kept saying Mad River. I too had never heard of it. The day before when I was getting online directions, I saw that Belfountaine is a few miles away. Aha, that sounded so familiar. I started talking to a mom who has a season pass for herself and teenage daughter. She gave me the history on MR, saying 20 years ago it was wild, lots of drinking, very rowdy behavior. Definitely not a family atmosphere. Again, it was starting to sound very familiar to me (my friends were all single back then, talked about fun trip to this resort). Thankfully they've toned down the partying (but still sell alcohol) and encourage more families to attend.
All in all, my daughter and her cousin still say they prefer Perfect North Slopes in Indiana (where they usually ski). But they were interested in looking elsewhere. And we all joked, if we were rich, we'd go out west to ski! Again, remember I'm not a skiier. I just hold the table all day and read. Which is kinda fun!

Get up early and drink bloody mary's at the Foggy Goggle at Seven Springs. Wahoo Sounds like a plan. The best time I ever had at a ski resort was at Seven Springs. We knew one of the owners who let us use his cottage. It had three bedrooms, beautiful fully equipped kitchen, dining room and wonderful livingroom with huge fireplace. The lift tickets and rental fees were all taken care of for the entire group. We had a ball and our only expense for 4 days was food and drink and drink and drink. lol

Karan - that does sound like a fun trip. I should have been a skiier......LOL
There are rental trailers near Mad River. Laura said she saw them from the slopes, you just winter there and ski all the time. Sure, we'll do that.......now where did my lotto ticket go, I need to compare the numbers.......
LOL at the image of you Karan, skiing after a few Bloody Mary's!

Funny you should mention skiing and ski resorts...lol
We FINALLY got a decent snow at Big Bear this past weekend and we went up early on Saturday to let the kids snowboard. It was so beautiful, with fresh snow falling from the sky the entire day. We spent many hours on our property, basking in the beauty of it covered in snow...still trying to settle on a final house plan, so we can get busy building and start really enjoying life in Big Bear. The kids boarded into the night...Snow Summit has lights for night skiing...and the drive down the mountain was tedious, but we made it with no mishap, unlike many others we saw wrecked and slid off the road
.
We started in a group at church last night called "Suppers for 8". Has anyone ever participated in this before with their church? We got linked up with some neat people and hope to experience great fellowship with these new folks.
Enjoy your day off today, if you're off for Presidents day. God Bless...Shannon

Hi Shannon,
A church that my folks, sister and I were a part of for many years in Ohio (and we get the church newsletter to keep up with the latest goings-on!)
started a Wednesday evening fellowship supper a few years ago before prayer meeting and we can read the menu in each week's edition.

Sandi - hello! Did you see the topic I started for your update? You've had quite a few responses by now.
Sure was nice to get a PM from you the other day and now I see you've posted on the Stove topic. We miss you! Take care......
Mary
PS - in case anyone is wondering, I'm working now at our middle school. And directly in line for the next opening, which happening yesterday (employee quit). It's just a matter of time before I'm offered a contract at this school. And then I'll be all set. So if I haven't posted in a while, don't worry. Just busy-busy and I'm finding that sitting here at the computer is definitely counter productive to what I need to do now - work, chores, errands, fix dinner, etc. I wish I could carve more online time out but I can't! And oh yeah, I need sleep too....LOL Take care all.
