NWS MIA Confirms a Strong Bermuda High, a Precursor?

I tell you what....it's sure in the hell windy here! In Houma right now, winds are sustained at 27mph and gusting to 42mph.

Yeah, and I just got a call from the parking lot. Because of the high winds and the debris that is STILL LEFT, my back wind shield has been completely busted.

Ridge is holding strong tonight. Deep SE flow over South Florida. You can smell the ocean. It's great. Looks like the next 4-5 days of this

A Bermuda High parked in that position will also likely bring up a lot of Gulf Moisture, good for severe.

For those that are skeptical about predicting the Bermuda High setup for the summer in spring, check out this snippet from the Palm Beach Post. We look at Bermuda High trends such as those going on right now to make predictions about the Bermuda High later. Of course it is not quite spring yet and we need to monitor the high over the next 3 months or so to get a better idea.

What I fear is that last year there was a relatively weak Bermuda High presence so I don't think we would see such a weak presence this year.

He said the role of the high will be more clear in the spring. Klotzbach will take over as the lead forecaster as Gray concentrates on global warming studies

I checked out the updated GFS model and at the end of the run about 270 some hours and 320 hours shows rain for us here in south florida.

it's far out so it is too early to say. Is it from a frontal passage?

well it wouldn't surprise me. We are in mid March, so I would expect fronts to make it through here still. Once we get into the end of April and into May especially, we should know more. May is a key month.

The latest GFS run weakens the ridge at around 100 hours or so, but it is usually natural for this early on.

Today is like a preview of summer. Strong SE flow, lots more humidity, and some cumulous blowing in from the Atlantic. A true sign there is a Bermuda high out there right now

yep I got it. What is amazing is that this same pattern will continue not only today but Sat, Sun., Mon, and Tues.....I think after a few days or so, you will here comments from some down here like (where has all this humidity come from, or the pattern is the same and doesn't change).

If there were a hurricane out there (say north of the Greater Antilles), FL would be under the gun right now. Fortunately there is no hurricane. However, I'm hoping this setup we have right now doesn't happen much come hurricane season.
