I remember that pic well. Waking up sunday morning to Cat 5(which wasnt a surprise because I had been glued to it for days...I was all the sudden like, OK, now I have to get off my arse and do something. I had bought stuff, but really hadnt "prepared". Mobile was already pretty quiet. I called my dad who was about to drive in from Pascagoula to Mobile to play the organ at mass and told him to bring the family cat to me...They were leave Pascagoula for Hattiesburg, but I had to stay behind for work(hospital). They had planned to leave Gato(the family pet of 17 years in the solidly built stilt house on the bayou. At cat 5 I said, no way, bring him. So I met my dad at the church parking lot, which was empty basically, despite it being 10 minutes after mass was to start and took the old cat with me.
They went on to Hattiesburg. The house survived but flooded, and Gato survived the trauma of being moved around(he was rather particular). Unfortunately Gato escaped the house during the clean up when a door got left open. I feel like he probably went off to die. Poor little guy, never spent a day out of that house other than hurricane Georges evacuation, then came back to his whole world in ruin. I felt like running away too...

Thanks Christy!
Thank you very much. This is the kind of thing I don't have and I doubt many others do either. Good job.

These huge animations are even taking forever to load on cable modem. For the mercy of those on dialup I must ask that they be edited to provide only the link to the animations.
It is great to be able to watch these if we want to, but with them as part of the actual message it is causing major slow downs. If it were during hurricane season with our normal amount of members on line this would be impossible. So please be considerate of the rest of the members when posting this type of image.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

I remember it all too well. It stayed at 115 for the longest. I went to work like a normal day. The track had just got shifted our way. Their was a big sign in front of the Boudreau and Thibodeau's cajun restarant. Saying it is coming Kiss your a** goodbye. That was a little alarming. As I got to work, it was virtually a ghost town. I guess nobody cares about shopping for shoes and clothes, when a killer storm is coming right? The hardware store was the only place where business was booming. Generators sold out quickly. The mall closed at 3 p.m. that day. But, even though Sears is a part of the mall, we did not close until 6 p.m. We are always the last ones to close, no matter what. They boarded up the store and protected the cash registers. As I went home, I stopped at the gas station right by house and filled up my tank. Word got around that the track officially got shifted even further west to Terrebonne Parish. My parents said we were going to ride this one out. Because we rode out Andrew here and that is what they expected here.
The next morning my parents had the TV blasing before 6 a.m. I will never forget the shocked looked on their faces. Katrina was now a monster Cat 5. They were shouting at me, get up and pack your bags NOW!!!!!!! I insisted on staying. But, my dad has a bad temper and you don't try to argue with him. He does not care how old you are. You could be 50 and you got to do what he says or else! So, we evacuated for the very first and only time in my whole life. And I lived my whole life in this boring little town, but what a day that was!
