The SPC definitely blew this one. This was High Risk weather. Also no PDS's were ever issued - and they issued them in the past for far less notable events.

Looks like the inflow from the developing cell to the north of the cell that will affect Memphis is dispupting it. The hook echo is no where near a pronounced as it was just a few minutes ago. Hopefully Memphis will be spared.....MGC

I was outside of Lowry City MO in St Clair County (17 miles south of Clinton MO) over the weekend. We had bigtime thunderstorms between 3 and 6:30 AM down there this morning. Lots of lightning and thunder and heavy rain. As we drove back this afternoon, we could see the storms trying to build to the east.

You were fortunate you had it last night overnight when they weren't terribly well organized, unlike now.

Bad outbreak, thanks for the updates.

Just watching TWC update (between storm stories and commercials) and they had an emergency manager on the line. Then the line went live, and could hear the person saying "I'm going to hang up on this call. They put me on hold." The TWC guys said "Sir? Hello? Well, I guess we lost the caller." TWC couldn't do an interview and then play the tape 2 minutes later, or just keep someone on the line with the guy, but instead expect an EM with current threat and/or damage to sit on hold?!? Serves them right!

I had to snicker, having worked tornado emergencies in EOC with fatalities... the press ...what can I say? It went like this:

"This is CBS News in New York. How many fatalities??"
"We don't know yet, we still have emergency situation ongoing in several counties"

hang up the phone and it rings immediately
"This is CBS News in Chicago. How many fatalities?"
"Sir, this is an unlisted emergency operations center number. Please clear the line!"

hang up and it rings again immediately
"This is CBS News, Los Angeles. How many fatatlities?"
"Can't you call your affiliate in New York, and ask them?"

"This is CBS News, San Francisco. How many fatalities?"
"We are trying to handle an ongoing emergency, and can't dial out. Please clear this line!!"

(multiply above by NBC,ABC,CNN,AP, Reuters, etc.)

Reporting myself in as intact. Power lost as home, so I drove in to work. There is some tree and structural damage within a mile where I live.

May the storms pass everyone else without indicident.

Good to see you OK! There have been several tornadoes reported in that area. It's tough to follow tonight as there are three severe areas!

Typical ignorance from the national mainstream media...they are terrible at covering tornado events. Best to leave it to local radio and TV stations.

I'll have to find out! WFIE Evansville (who had most of the good coverage for their devastating tornado) had coverage but most has left the area. Also looking at Louisville and Nashville area as well.
