NGCG Part 3 - Haunted History Tour anyone?
Moderator: S2k Moderators
You know, the Mississippi gulf coast, Mobile and Pensacola have been hit or affected by not only Katrina, but also Dennis and Ivan in the last two years. I think Mobile is the only area that has not had a direct hit. You are welcome to meet here. I think the pensacola members are closer to this meeting than to the Florida get together - even if your gathering is held in NO. I probably won't go to the gathering, because I'm ancient compared to y'all, but I do want you to be safe and have fun.

I feel perfectly safe going there and do so nearly every weekend. Also, what skysummit said. It is absolutely fine to go to CBD/Uptown/Garden District/French Quarter. The Audubon Zoo and surrounding area is also quite safe (and they need the visitors to help defray the costs of rebuilding).Wow after Katrina and all are you guys serious about this? You sure there is no more debree, flooding, crazy people on the streets.
Well gosh, yes, since the whole place has been dry since November, the debris is cleared off of major roads/streets (it's just in piles next to it!) in the areas mentioned above that experienced minor to medium flooding, and most of the harmfully crazy people are still not around. The vast majority of the endearingly crazy people that are still around won't hurt you. There's quite a bit of people back that are working, going to school, and just living life in general there.
It's not a warzone across the entire city anymore.
Really and truly there are some parts that, while they still exhibit damage and the marks of rebuilding, are largely back to the new normal. Except for a few stop lights that don't work, some shuttered restaurants/businesses and the aforementioned signs of wind/flood damage and repair.
I live in Baton Rouge and have been doing lots of work in NOLA as I am a civil engineer and there is a lot of work down there. I have had not problems and I have been to all parts of the city. I think we should meet in the French Quarter it was untouched... We can book a room at Mike Anderson's seafood, great food and it is on Bourbon Street, Lots of hotels and I would be willing to help people out in picking a nice and safe hotel for everyone anyone.. I say we do it on Saturday May 20... Everyone let me know and i will book us a room at Mike Anderson's when we get some commits

Anderson's is nice; but I particularly like Jaeger's--across from the old Wildlife and Fisheries building I believe, and a lot of "clop-clop" horse driven tours) .. they have some of the best seafood dishes around... JMHO, but we've held several National Academic Games Board meetings there (of which I'm a member), and always had a great time... good music, (usually live band/performers), great food, and a nice ambience!... again,... JMHO.

Jaeger's at WestEnd? They were washed away. But yeah, I used to love to go to Jaeger's, too

OMG the losses at West End were horrific... and extremely depressing! So many wonderful restaurants!
They have a Jaeger's in the French Quarter... been there many times!
At least they did at our last board meeting held here 2 years ago!

Okay, Andrew Jaeger's. Not the same one I was thinking of. Haven't been to that one!
It's a very nice place, in the Quarter: see description above

You may want to check that Andrew Jaeger's has reopened in the quarter. There are some restaurants that haven't reopened.
Pat O's may be a good option.....Myself and Sunny are working together to get some setting up this event we will be posting more info on this in the coming days

If we do, we could save that for later?
I'm all good with that! We can't have a hurricane gathering without putting out a couple hurricanes ourselves!

If y'all hold it on MS Gulf Coast, I'll show up. I'd reccommend Ocean Springs because it involves the least travel for me.
Seriously though, OS *did* come through with the least damage of the Mississippi coastal cities; downtown with all the bars and restaurants (and my house) remains intact.

You know that's right!! It's better to drink a hurricane than to run from one!!!
Okay y'all. Those who want to attend, please PM me. We need to get an idea of how many people we need to make reservations for, so we can get a place nailed down. We will of course be posting options (if possible) so we can make a group decision as to where we would like to go.
