Are you watching the Kentucky Derby now?

#1 Postby MiamiensisWx » Sat May 06, 2006 11:10 am

I have the TV on and set to ESPN. I am looking at the Kentucky Derby live as I am sitting by my computer.

Are YOU watching it?

Oh... thanks for the information! In the guide, it said it started at 12PM EST. Am I correct? Where did you get your information?

Yes, I'm sure it was really nice for those who celebrated here in Raleigh and Wake County. :)

*******

Also, looks like a beautiful day for the race and a high of 64F there in Louisville. :)

LOL! The "time" doesn't matter to a Kentuckian (or former Kentuckian). Doesn't matter when the race starts...the party started a week ago. There are parades, hot air balloon races, balls, festivities, and on and on!

And on race day, the parties usually start around 11 or so. Lots of TV's on everywhere, lots of races going all day, mint juleps (blech!), country ham and biscuits (YUM!), watching the local networks (all-day coverage) to see the celebrities arriving, as well as owners, jockeys, and managers, and endless betting!

Best darn two minutes in sports...and then some!! LOL!

Even though I don't have a drop of Kentuckian blood running through my veins, I always get a bit wistful and misty listening to the crowd sing "My Old Kentucky Home" just before the race begins. I also love the traditional gorgeous hats ! Of course, it's the sleek beauty and rippling power of the horses which most commands that marvelous mix of astonishment and awe. HURRAY for Kentucky Derby Day!

I do not watch it. IMO, it is animal abuse.
