8 year old girl swept away up here.

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Tue Jun 27, 2006 8:43 pm

Around 1PM today an 8 year old girl was swept into a swift flooding creek in Alleghany County, VA. This is next county to my west and located NW of Roanoke, VA. Got an email TWC mentioned this story.

Playing in grandparent's backyard and decided to check out the rising water. Pulled in and older sister grabbed her but could not hoist her out. I am unaware of any instance a small child missing this long has survived in swift water flash flooding

Assuming waters recede, I have Cub Scout Day Camp Week in the same area tomorrow (postponed last 2 days due to wx). 75 boys. Wish us luck.

One day down, 3 to go. 70 kids all had fun and went home safely...incredible weather. Everyone had a blast.

Unfortunately, the outcome for the young girl from yesterday was not a happy one. I'm far from a softie but that story breaks my heart.

Thanks for the comments about camp... we rock ;)

Tragic... terrible what raging water can do. Have a good, and more importantly, safe trip.

Scott, i'm really sorry to hear about the little girl :( Be safe on your outing and i know you will make sure to keep those Boy Scouts out of harm's way.
