This is normal for this time of year. The Problem is the previous two years were the exception, not the rule. Now it seems like those two years are being thought of as the norm. They were not.

No offense to Yankeegirl at all... I knew this would be one of those why is this season slow, with all the angry replies and complaining associated.

I remember a time when I was growing up in the 80's and Early 90's when, you would be lucky to have a few storms to track. Times were very slow then.. I wonder what's going to happen when we revert back to a below normal cycle in the Atlantic.

So far as I see it we are right at Normal or slightly above.

I think we'll see another named storm before August and then it will ramp up a little bit.

Where were we this time last year?

actually we are slightly above normal for this time of the year. 2 named storms and it is only July 21st. Remember 2004? we didn't have a storm until July 31st; and 1992...no storm until late August. So far, this season seems to be at or above normal.

Also, another thing to think about is so far we have seen 2 storms - 2 landfalls. This tells me that we could see another big landfall year.

My thoughts exactly, then people start complaining when Hurricanes start hitting them left and right. then they complain when it's quiet.

EWG is right,we are actually above normal right now.So it really hasn't been that much of a "quiet" season at all.And we are two storms ahead of 2004 and we all know how devastating that year was.

Here is something to ponder...

Over the past 155 years, we should have 1.05 named storms by today. (2006 is ahead of that average by 0.95)

Over the past 30 years, we should have 1.33 named storms by today. (2006 is ahead of that average by 0.67)

Since the dramatic increase of storms in 1995, we should have 2.00 named storms by today. (2006 is exactly on par with this average)

Yeah, but if we take the average since 2005, 2006 would be like 2.50 storms under the average today. This is a ridiclously below average season.
