If they find #5/Ernesto..?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

this wave is history........Derek just confirmed the entire Carib is in EXTREME shear. A wave can't survive that. I wouldn't give this a chance of developing at all now.

Not so fast ... let's see how things shake out today. There appears to be divergent viewpoints within the pro met realm about whether or not 97L survives.

I jumped on everybody yesterday for jumping on the bandwagon so quickly, I will do the same today with those that are jumping off. Lets see what happens, I've said 30-40%, and call of major hurricanes or dissapation are premature.

Guys, I cant believe that 24 hrs from now models were predicting a hurricane, and now the Carib is in extreme shear? How do conditions change so fast in less than 24 hrs?

I think it's really time to crack down in Immigration issues. I mean 2005 brought Katrina, and 2006 may well see Ernesto. Can't someone in Congress do something?

8-)

Yeah, as soon as we build that fence-thing ... we can keep those undesirable storms out! :D

:D But that does bring up an interesting point. If we rocked off a bunch of jettys in an unprecedented building feat to rival the half mile residential building they're constructing in Dubai, we probably could take some energy out of these things without any redress from Mother Nature. Just tow some mountains from TDR (they don't need 'em) or lay out barges end to end filled with giant concrete boulders and maybe we can eliminate 5-10% of potential destructive energy without having to call out friends at Dy-No-Mat or whatever.

Now you're thinking!

My idea was a giant Saharan Dust Blaster that would spray the stuff into the high levels of the atmosphere as storms approached populated areas. Think of those computer keyboard dusters ... except much bigger with Saharan dust in them!

Derek DID NOT say that.....

Derek Ortt wrote:and the shear is not extreme. 21KT is not extreme shear

Extreme shear is 50-60KT

Get it straight before you quote a Met.
