Collectors here?

How many here collect *things* besides DUST?

I'm a Charlie Brown FREAK....I've got SO much Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Linus stuff, especially Christmas stuff! I also have a "Matchbox Car" collection that I've had since I was 5-7 yrs. old, I have one, a Issue #2 from Matchbox....it's a garbage truck.

I collect Fiesta Ware. I have all the casserole dishes in every color. I have even managed to get the vintage fiesta. Have alot of rare and hard to get pieces.

They have a Fiesta Ware store here in Galveston. My best friend and her hubby have it too.

Me -- I collect autographs, Patty Duke movies, and blood bank incentives.

I am not a big collecter of much, but I am proud of all the shells I have collected over the past 2 years at Sanibel Island, its the shell captial of the world, and we found some good ones.

I collect surfboards.I have about 26 of them ranging from all sizes.I have some really old ones that my dad and even my grandfather has passed down to me.I have one that I got custom made in Hawaii,it has Jimi Hendrix painted on it.

Carnival glass

Coins, both old and new. It's not a huge collection, but there are some nifty coins in it and it contains more silver then any other object in my house.

I wish I could start over and not have so much clutter! Like you Dennis, I have things that collect dust and a dog that sheds. Add the two together (and sunshine) and wow, it's a big ole dustbowl here at times! LOL

Seriously though, I no longer collect certain things, and I've learned not to accept my mother's cast offs anymore. They go straight to Goodwill. She used to clean out her closets and impose it all onto me, saying someday these items would be worth something. Someday. LOL Sure a chipped crystal bowl will be worth something someday. She'd suggest I just turn it so you didn't see the chip. My husband suggested I just pitch it! That chipped bowl is one of oh 100-500 items over the past 20 years she's pawned off on us. Rarely does any of it, amount to worthwhile heirlooms. Sigh....I'm strong now - I just politely say I need to clean out my own closets and pair down my collectibles, no thank you. She doesn't like it much but tough.

If I could start over, I'd have such a bare house! Think of all the time we'd have on our hands if we didn't collect so much? I used to collect perfume bottles, they're long gone now.

dizzyfish - your carnival glass collecting caught my eye. I bought a gorgeous bowl a few months ago. When you look through the bottom, it appears to be the yellow carnival glass, but the whole piece is this beautiful purple color. There are no maker's marks on it anywhere. Any ideas on how I can identify its age or origin?

Jen - does the whole thing look kinda like the rainbow colors on an oil spot that has gotten wet. (can't think of another way to describe it )
The carnival glass I have doesn't have maker's marks to identify it either. Sometimes you can tell antique from "new" pieces is by the edges of the bowl/platter/glass. The antique ones generally have a smoother edge than the newer pieces. (not always the case though).

You might try buying (or check your library) a collector's book on carnival glass. That might give you some idea.

Sorry I can't be of more help. It's kinda hard to tell with carnival glass.
Can you post or pm me a pic? I might be able to tell more from that.

My MIL collects blue. I just tossed a red glass candy/dessert dish. Not sure what it was but it didn't have a lid like most candy bowls, it had a scalloped top and was on a pedestal. I didn't have anywhere to put it, and it was just collecting dust.

wife says I collect boxes. Every original equipment box for electronics etc. is somewhere in my house, shed or attic. I even have every cell phone box and all the useless adapters and chargers that I don't need anymore.

Now on the important side, I collect Red Sox paraphenalia. Everything from ticket stubs, baseballs, jerseys, pictures..you name it, I got it. Even pajamas! Heck - I even have a pair of Curt Schilling bloody socks!

j - OMG - my husband does the same exact thing! I swear we have so many empty boxes right now, probably 20 or more. The only one that ever gets decent use is the one our iMac came in. He needs it for semi-annual tradeshows for work reasons so when he needs to pack it up, the box comes in very handy. And once for Apple repair. The rest of the boxes have collected dust. For years!
