NEXRAD's retiring.
Good Wednesday evening, all.
Foremost, I apologize if this post is unwelcome or in an inappropriate place on the S2K forums. I certainly do not wish to clog the forums with nonsense, but feel it is important for me to relay this message.
As the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season begins, I wish to acknowledge that I am retiring from public forecasting for an undetermined period.
Since 1999, I have been actively participating in various Internet forum discussions concerning tropical, severe, and winter weather. As my schedule (and life) have gotten busier, I have increasingly reduced my discussion and forecast topic areas, and most recently have focused solely on Atlantic tropical weather. Last year, I completed my first thesis research and was thankful for a slow Atlantic hurricane season. Unfortunately for my forecasting, I have long choosen to follow a non-meteorology academic and career path.
In pursuing my choosen life direction, I will begin advanced studies at a new university this fall. With my increased obligations, I will no longer have adequate time to analyze the tropics. In turn, I will be unable to produce the timely and high quality forecast products that I have shared over the past years. I have debated attempting truncated, shorter versions of my forecast and analysis bulletins, but feel that doing so will only reduce the accuracy and quality. Sharing such shortened information would be a great disservice to those who have come to enjoy my write-ups. Therefore, it is with regret that I have decided to retire from Atlantic tropical forecasting.
In the future, I hope to return should circumstances allow me more time and energy to apply to forecasting endeavors. Until then, I thank everyone who has read my forecasts and posts, shared with me praise and crow alike, and finally all who have openly discussed observations and predictions with me. I have learned from many of you. May you all have a safe and enjoyable Atlantic hurricane season 2007.
Wishing lovely breezes,
- Jay

Good luck with what your doing, any little bit that you can input is awesome. I have always wanted to pursue a path in Meteorology, and life hasn't worked out as such yet. I know that most of the time even though I always have something pulling me away, I always come back to weather and the tropics, it's a passion really. Someone told me about 2 years ago that, I am extremely lucky that I know what my passion is. People spend their whole life trying to find it, and whatever you do with it career wise or just personal time, it will probably be worth it.
I hope things work out for you...

Jay,
You will be missed by all who had the honor of reading your posts and forecasts. One thing that life has taught me is that our "chosen" path is not always easy or understandable until our minds open. To follow your chosen path is a decision of courage and discernment. I wish you many successes and an abundance of passion. You are welcome here anytime!

I know just about enough to sound like I know what I'm talking about sometimes. But for your safety please follow the nhc for truly professional forecasting.

Thank you very much for the great forecasts that you have presented in the past. I always looked forward to them and to your replies to us. Your insight will be sorely missed in times of active tropical weather.
Good luck!

Mf Dolphin, Cajun Mama, EDR1222, SouthFloridawx, and NCHurricane: I will stop back when able this season, and in future seasons. My posts will likely be more short-term observational with some forecast commentary rather than full-fledged actual forecasts. I am sure I can manage to pull that from time to time, especially because I will still be watching the tropics. It's just more feasible for me, at this current stage of life, to spend thirty minutes or an hour enjoying the tropics rather than racking my brain for four hours trying to figure out the best forecast!
Mikey: Thank you much! I've already been quite blessed with my present opportunities, and am glad for further well-wishes here.
King-6: Thank you as well. Indeed, I plan to enjoy my ongoing studies and research and want to incorporate them more fully into my life.
SouthFloridawx: I agree about passions. My problem is that I have so many passions that I've had trouble choosing a single path. I am pleased with my present direction, though. It is one where I know I can bring much positive change for people, moreso than by a career in meteorology.
GulfBreezer: Thank you for your encouraging words. A banquet speaker I heard, not too long ago, informed about good choices. She told that the best choices in life are those that take courage, and challenge one's limits. Your words a certainly wise, and indeed my selected path is one that I fully expect will bring me much joy.
Robbielyn: Glad you're kidding! Otherwise, I might have to apply my "other" specialty - cognitive behavioral psychology!

Thank you all again; I will miss my detailed forecasting greatly, but will return as I am able. In the meantime, best wishes to all!
