That's one reason why I brought Ginger up. I mean, for sure her path was something else. But she was a shoo-in to be a fish, and then did her thing and turned around. Imagine if we had been tracking her today, the mayhem on the boards. The hair-pulling. OHHHHHHH, MAKE UP YOUR MIND STUPID HURRICANE!

Because of the stories I heard from my parents about her, and the fact that she was truly a long lived Cape Verde system:

Dora takes the prize.

It is also a classic example of a strong storm meeting a much stronger Bermuda High.

Don't have the graphic, but Hurricane Kate took a strange track for a November Storm back in 1985.

Also, Felix in 1995. It just was in no hurry to do anything once it got close to the North Carolina Outer Banks. And, I am sure all the surfers in Florida will never forget that one. As it approached from the east it brought waves, then it turned NW toward Carolina and brought in another ground swell...then it stalled...then it did a loop if I remember right, before heading Northeast while shooting down another strong Northeast groundswell in the process. I remember it well to this day!

Also, I believe there was some kind of sub-tropical storm back in 52 or 53? The only February storm on record maybe? It hit South Florida, but was not very strong.

A hurricane that takes this path would probably cause quite a bit of damage.

Image

Looks like this one decided to come back for more.

Image

This one stayed close to land but still managed to intensify to hurricane strength before several landfalls.

Image

What would cause a hurricane to move in a SW direction for such a long time?

Image

This track would probably do a lot of damage.

Image

This one is unusual because hurricanes don't usually strike the northeastern U.S. while moving with a westerly component.

Image

This hurricane must've been drunk.

That "drunk" hurricane I believe was San Ciriaco. Yeah, she was pretty inebriated too.

This one would have been a damaging storm. I bet it would produce lots of flooding in Florida.

Image

What would make a hurricane take a such a southward track like this one?

Image

Not really a parabola, but close.

Image

Eastern Cuba would be devastated if a storm took this track.

Image

What conditions would make a hurricane take this track?

Image

Highly unusual track into New England.

Image

1934 had several odd tracks.

The last time we were hit. And I wasn't here to see it. I'd like to keep that track record intact.

Mine would have to be Betsy. I want to use the word interesting and not favorite because she killed a lot of people. But, I loved the way she was heading straight for the Carolinas, did a loopty loop right off of Jacksonville, Fl. Then, hit Key Largo, Fl in the Keys and then hit Grand Isle, Louisiana next.

Your favorite track of all time

#5 of 1947 is one of my favorites. Anytime a hurricane formed east of 25W... and stays a hurricane for 15 days deserves some consideration. It eventually hit SE Florida... then SE Louisiana.

How about 1957's Hurricane Carrie? (Which I personally think was a Category 5 in the ocean)

I have to disagree, In fact I don't think it was even a category four. It had a reading of 135kts and 975mbar. That doesn't seem likely at all to me. But great track nonetheless.

Forgot about this one. Storms that last more than 18 days usually have awesome tracks.

How about a category 5 typhoon making landfall in Japan? Those typhoons back in the late 50s sure were nasty!
