Re: Typhoon Usagi intercept thread - in Miyazaki, Kyushu - Japan
[quote="Typhoon Hunter"]Arrived in Nobeoka, small town of about 35,000 people. Quite a few shops are shut but loads of traffic on the street and the train station was bustling.
I've found a good hotel near the main river (anyone thinking major flooding) and gonna head out soon to take some pictures.
Current conditions are pretty calm.[quote]
The calm before the storm, classic!!!
Be safe and good luck. Hope to see good pictures and video, if possible.

Re: Typhoon Usagi intercept thread - in Nabeoka, Kyushu - Japan
The internet is the most amazing thing ever!!
The continuous heave rain has set in now with gusty wind but nothing too bad. Just went up the coast and my oh my it's being pounded by the most massive waves. Photographic conditions were atrocious, terrible visibilty, vast amounts of rain and no shelter. Managed to get a couple though:

The odd landslide thrown in for good measure:

I'm having problems accessing the website and have to go through a proxy which isn't letting me upload pics. If someone would be so kind as to go to the links and upload those pics to S2K on my behalf that would be great...thanks.

I agree as well.
Also, The pictures on the links came out nice! Looking forward to seeing more as things progress. It's very interesting to see how other countries prepare for such events and how they deal with the aftermath.

Conditions really deteriorating now with sheeting rain and very strong gusts shaking power poles etc. I'm going to ride this out at the railway station where there is plenty of light and space to film...plus it's solidly built. Probably won't be online for a good few hours.

In the eye of the storm!
First half has been a wild ride. Ran back from the train station to the hotel in the calm. Rain hasn't started back up yet. Got some good footage and pics of the chaos. Back end of the storm will be punching through sometime soon I imagine.
Local time is 5.51pm

Thanks for the comments!
The weather here is fine now with a slighty gusty wind and a bit of rain. My hotel is next to a very large river which is flowing by silently but at full flood pace with whole trees etc being swept down stream. If only it was light I'd take some pics. Very surreal.

Just been down to the "beach" at Nobeoka and it doesn't really resemble a beach. Evidence of considerable storm surge as can be seen in pics below:

!
Alan thanks a lot for the support!
The beach was one hell of a scene. Thankfully the Japanese don't build their houses right on surge prone coastline. I've put together a film of the highlights of Usagi. I hope you enjoy it:
