Thunderstorms are becoming very intense offshore. Hopefully none of these become severe as they move over the area over the next few hours.

From the Lake Charles NWS at 11:58am

UPDATED...UPDATED TEMPERATURES AS FRONT HAS SLOWED AND MORE SUNSHINE
POKING THROUGH THAN EXPECTED. SENT OUT ZONE FORECAST PACKAGE UPDATE.

A STRONG COLD FRONT WAS LOCATED FROM NEAR TEXARKANA TO HUNTSVILLE TO
35 MILES WEST OF HOUSTON. ROUGH ESTIMATES INDICATE FRONTAL PASSAGE
AROUND 11 AM JASPER AREA...1130 AM BPT...1245 PM LAKE CHARLES...1 PM
ALEXANDRIA...145 PM LAFAYETTE...AND 245 PM MORGAN CITY. AHEAD OF THE
FRONT...JUICY AIRMASS WILL BE IN PLACE WITH TEMPERATRURES REACHING
INTO THE UPPER 70S TO LOWER 80S. VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY
UNFORTUNATELY SHOWING LARGE BREAKS IN THE CLOUDS FROM LAKE CHARLES
EAST TO NEAR LAFAYETTE. THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER CURRENTLY HAS
THE AREA IN A SLIGHT RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS. LOOKING AT THE
PROJECTED WIND FIELD FROM SURFACE TO 700 MB...APPEARS TO BE ENOUGH
VEERING WITH HEIGHT TO GET SOME STORMS TO ROTATE
. UNEASY FEELING AT
THE MOMENT
AS STORM ACROSS SE TEXAS APPEAR TO BE GETTING BETTER
ORGANIZED IN THE VICINITY OF THE FRONT. WILL UPDATE ZONES TO REFLECT
IMPROVING RISK OF SEVERE STORMS. WILL ALSO UPDATE TEMPERATURES AS
SUNSHINE GETTING THROUGH AND TEMPERATURES CLIMBING TO NEAR HIGHS
ALREADY FORECASTED...

Call me weird, but I was hoping the late Spring type weather would never end.

BTW, OKC radar- surf temp of 49ºF (9ºF) about 10ºF too warm, at least, but that radar has a 'snowish" appearance to me.

Might be, while it doesn't quite equal the magic 540 dm thickness or zero C 850 mb temp, looks like 542-544 DM and +2 to +4º, looking at 12Z model forecasts for 18Z, which is pretty close.

Back in Orlando, after a cold front passed through, it took at least a few hours or even a day for the real cold to settle in. I move to Houston, get a cold front and the change is immediate! It never really did get this cold in October when I lived in Orlando anyway. I don't like it (yet).

Lafayette pretty much missed out on the rain. New Orleans flooded...5 inches + has fallen already. Some places may receive up to 10 inches with this system.

Well, I guess you're in for it then, as this was a very run-of-the-mill frontal passage for us. And compared to what happens out on the plains, such as Lubbock, it's a cakewalk here in Houston. Out there I've literally seen it go from 70's to snowing in a matter of hours; I've seen it drop 40 degrees in less than an hour out there.

You're not alone though - I'm a Florida transplant too - I've been in Texas 19 years, most of them in Dallas where it gets much colder, and I STILL don't like it either. Don't get me wrong - I like to watch it, or like this morning be outside when it blows through - it's very interesting from a meteorological point of view - but my feelings are "OK, that was fun, now bring back summer"...

It's only 56° right now.... feels great! We had a low of 47° in Beaumont. The wind is still kicking up pretty good as well. It finally feels like fall. Image

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 49. Northwest wind between 5 and 15 mph.

Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 48. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 72. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 47.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 74.

Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 49.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 75.

Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 50.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 50.
