SE TX/SW LA weather: Much cooler and WET after Tuesday

Nice little gust front has passed, and it is sprinkling, the heavy rain hasn't started yet, but I saw a single flash of lightning in about 3 minutes standing outside the office and watching.

Cell forming ahead of the main line approaching Acadia Parish.


These are the ones that could become tornadic.

Let me get this straight. This massive storm system is what is coming to Florida tommorow? By the time that this gets to Florida, specifically South Florida, how strong will it be?

We had a good strong thunderstorm under the Bear Creek Dome, but the downdraft was what caught my attention. WOW! This is trash day and people's cans and bags when wheeling straight down the street. I have no clue where they all finally landed.

The cold air along with that downdraft was a shock to the system as well. BRRR!!

The line is just about here, looks very nasty. I don't like the looks of this cell that just popped up to our west moving into the Lafayette ahead of the line...those are the ones you need to really look out for. Hopefully this is just a rain event.

The line is just about here, looks very nasty. I don't like the looks of this cell that just popped up to our west moving into the Lafayette ahead of the line...those are the ones you need to really look out for. Hopefully this is just a rain event.

Besides that nasty little cell, while the cells are moving generally West to East, the whole line is only very slowly sagging to the South, and the rain will add up. That bend in the line near Beaumont might be a little mesolow forming, which might hold the line nearly stationary until it passes.

6 Tornado warnings now in effect in SE LA and MS. The line does appear to be buckling over the Sabine River, I wonder how long this cell is going to sit on top of us because it's coming down!

Wet and muddy. At least we got a little work done yesterday! It's like a swamp.... I took a picture and was shocked at what come out of the water...

Since I'm never going to be able to move, I might as well make light of the situation.

The weather in south louisiana turned deadly today. If only the woman had listened to the staff

Woman killed during tornado in southeast Louisiana

A tornado resulted in the death of a patient on the campus of Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence, outside of Hammond, this afternoon at approximately 1:40 PM.
As severe weather approached, medical center staff advised all patients, visitors and employees to remain inside and shelter in place. However, the victim, a 51 year old woman who was at Kemp for an outpatient visit, decided to leave the building.

An eyewitness saw the patient being lifted up into a funnel cloud and thrown against a vehicle.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Dr. Michael Butler, acting chief executive officer of the LSU Health Care Services Division. “Our thoughts are with them in this tragic time.”

Once the funnel cloud passed, Kemp staff immediately went to the aid of the patient and transported her to the emergency department, where she died due to her injuries.

“We’ve notified her family and offer them our deepest sympathies,” said Sherre Pack-Hookfin, Kemp acting hospital administrator. “We have received a great outpouring from community hospitals and agencies in the area offering assistance, and we greatly appreciate all of the support.”

In accordance with patient confidentiality policies, Kemp is not now releasing the name of the deceased.

The storm and tornado damaged the hospital and a number of vehicles. An assessment of damage is currently underway. However, inpatient and outpatient services will continue without interruption.
