They are all from Houston. Terrible tragedy. My condolences to the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy.

This is indeed a terrible tragedy, that probably shouldn't have even happened. Reports from TV stations here indicate the firm had had its liscence to operate outside of Texas revoked. Apparently there have been problems with maintenance that had not been addressed. Also, if the blow out of the tire did cause the accident, then this firm needs to be shut down for good as they had put a retread on the steering axle, which is illegal. Last time they had problems with regulatiors they just opened a new bus business at the same address under a diffierent name. Needs to be some very strong criminal actions taken against the owners imo.

Why in the world would he picket those who innocently lost their lives in a bus accident?

It will be a good day when he dies. Hopefully tens of thousands protest his funeral.

Phelps is protesting that God hates Texas because they passed a law barring them to protest at funerals. I am not aware of any law like this. It would not surprise however because he has protested in Texas, but not in Houston. He is anti-Catholic and the people who died were Catholics. Also, he is a racist, even though he was a civil rights lawyer who defended Black people in Kansas.

He also says that God hates Mexico because in Mexico City, they had a gay pride celebration. Mexico, like most of Latin America is anti-gay due to a strong culture of machismo. Also, he says God hates China for the same reason for Mexico and attacks Chinese government for idolatry and legalzing sodomy. Ironically, China executed gays and homosexuality is looked down upon in China.

Earlier this week, they had a fire at the church. I guess they are planning mass suicide since they did not post their bonds from losing that lawsuit last year.

Phelps and his toadies were barred from entering Canada when the entire town where the guy who was killed on the bus came demanded that the Government keep him out. This is an insane group which preaches hatred and vile under the banner of what they call Christianity which in my mind makes them no better than AQ. They have an anti-gay and anti abortion agenda. It's a small group and there are a lot of people who would like to do nasty things to them.

Because he and his "church" are attention whores.

He was also going to protest the funeral of the victim of that Canadian bus murder, but the Canadian government wisely refused him entrance into the country.

They mostly have an anti-gay agenda, which is their mantra. Phelps said that all preachers are liars, f**-enablers, and are going to H***. He says that all Christians are f*** and f**-enablers and are destined to go to H***. Sometimes I think Fred Phelps is a closeted homosexual. Yeah, they are no better than Al-Qaeda, except they hate Muslims too. I know they even supported Saddam Hussein for executing homosexuals, but later on said he was going to H***, but reserve their more vile comments for Gerald Ford. I saw this show called America's Most Hated Family, in which Louis Theroux lives with them. They are a bunch of wackos of the lowest denomination. I have read about Fred Phelps and WBC. They were a break away from Eastside Baptist Church and it is mostly made up of just three family members; Phelps, Hockebargers, Chris Davis, Theresa Davis (relationship unknown), and Drains (recently joined in 2000). Steve Drain was a film maker who made a film about Fred Phelps. There are 71 members and four of his own children defected.

They cause a lot of trouble in the neighbor and he is very litigious. He is also estranged from his father (Fred Phelps Sr.), stepmother (Olive Briggs), and sister. Sister is Martha Jean Capron and lives in Pennsylvania. When father and stepmother passed away, the obituary did not mentio Fred, just Martha. Martha also got all the inheritance from her parents.

One of Fred Phelps's son, Fred Jr. fell in love with Debbie Valgos, in which she was a Catholic. Phelps hates Catholics and called her a whore. Fred Jr. and Valgos ran away, but Fred Phelps got them. Valgos later died from drug overdose, possibly from being verbally abused by Fred Phelps.

Here are websites that have plenty of infon Phelps and WBC.

I have done research on this church and Fred Phelps. They are more than just attention whores. They are really anti-social and have a long criminal rap sheet. They are known to cause problems in their own neigborhood since 1955. Fred Phelps used a shotgun to blast a dog that happened to stary into his yard. The owner sued, but Phelps won. He also did money raising by door-to-door selling of vacuums, baby strollers, and insurance. All the salesmen were sued by Phelps too.

Oh and you're missing accusations of him abusing his children and possibly causing the death of a possible wife (fiance, was the term?) of one of his relatives and his assault and battery charges...

............I'll be as blunt as humanly possible:
I absolutely detest Fred Phelps and his cult church. This is the same guy who said Sidr was revenge for Bangladesh not accepting the god he believed in and protested at who knows how many different soldier funerals saying "Thank god for IEDs" (the bill Bush passed barring pickets at soldier funerals could be said to be in responce to this. Phelps and Bush, from what I hear, hate each other). He also planned to picket Virginia Tech and raised post-mordem red flags at Fred Rogers and Coretta Scott King. Sorry if I sound blunt, but I hate the guy. Nothing will ever overturn that. I feel sorry for the upstanding Kansas residents who have this guy operating out of their state, not to mention the I-don't-know how many people he slandered and spit on after their deaths.

Oh, and did I mention he picketed at the funeral for I-35W in Minnesota? I also think he's banned from entering one of the Scandinavian countries (I think Sweden) after protesting them and burning that country's flag.

(EDIT: Toned down the language a bit.

I detest Phelps and WBC. They are not Christians and even hated by the Ku Klux Klan and Neo-Nazis. I am aware of his abuse on his children and they are horrible. He was never abused himself by his father. Granted, his father had a volcanic personality, but he was not hate filled and he had been estranged from his own son. When people needed marriage counseling, he encourages husbands to abuse and hit their wives. The guy is anti-social, narcissistic, delusional, paranoid, and has very volcanic personality. He has to be a bad seed. They will throw their own children and grandchildren under the bus.

Kind of a bittersweet situation.... While it's good news that Phelps is nowhere near my hometown of Sherman, I'm saddened to learn that he was not standing under the Park Street overpass when the bus fell off.

Truly a horrible accident that occurred Friday....it's almost completely been ignored by the national media because of the Olympics, the war in Georgia, the Edwards affair, the deaths of Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes, etc.........but to all of us here in Grayson County we are shocked and saddened to learn what happened here in our backyard. My prayers are with the families.

Sadly this accident took place only about a mile up US 75 from where another horrific accident happened four years ago...when a fatigued truck driver crossed the center median and slammed into the southbound lanes, killing 10. Now when I head south out of Sherman there will be 10 crosses on one side of the road....then 17(+?) a mile farther on the other side...and then another at the Texoma Parkway underpass where somebody drowned during our record floods last summer......man. Sherman is too small of a city for this kind of stuff to keep happening.

Also anybody living in the DFW area ought to go donate blood if they haven't already. Not a single occupant of that bus escaped injury and many are still in ICU, in addition to the more typical need that always exists. Go donate today!

Here in Houston, it is really big news, since they came from Houston. The Olympics is more of a good thing and war in Georgia could be a problem for the world.

Fred Phelps is someone who I can't stop laughing at. The word "helps" is in his last name, meaning he needs help! This man must be the most extreme, wicked, evil, insane crank to grace this continent. When I listen to some of his sermons (just clips), I know he is demon possessed.

The amount of picketing they do is unreal. I wonder when he finally does face God on Judgement Day, what God's reaction to him will be. Fred thinks he is the only righteous person alive on earth with all of his demented followers and the only ones to enter heaven.

Here is a statement that the WBC made about Tim McLean from the bus incident:

WBC asking Canadian's wrote:“You understand that this dead fart [Tim McLean] has now joined Matthew Shepard in hell?”

Hope they don't try to get a statue made saying Tim McLean entered h*** on the date of death, like they tried doing with Shepard.

As much as most, if not all of us abhor Phelps and his group, this thread is not about him. Please take it back to the original subject.
