MGC wrote:Sure does seem like a lot of S2K members from Louisiana and the central GOM coast are here tonight. I guess we are still paranoid three years later and I can't blame us because I am too. I thought I had it under control but after Katrina that all changed. I will try not to panic till I am in the three day cone. Until then I'll just be overly anxious about Gustav. I am not likeing what I'm seeing tonight with Gustav's IR appearance on satellite. Looks to be becoming better organized and it appears to be an eye developing. I'm thinking that Gus will likely miss or just graze Hati. I'm going with a south of Cuba track, close to the coast. If Gus does indeed track in such a mannor he will be transversing some of the highest ocean heat content in the Caribbean. Shear should be light the next several days. As a result, I would not be surprised if Gustav becomes a major hurricane in the next couple of days. Personally, I'd rather see Gustav track along the entire lenght of Cuba and lose his inner core. Of course Hurricane Fredrick kinda did the same and once he moved off Cuba got his act together........MGC

Of course the above is MGC opinion and not an official forecast.

I'm thinking that Gustav will turn more WNW by tomorrow morning and move between Jamicia and the southern coast of Cuba continue moving WNW or just north of due west.Turn more NW once its gets to Western Cuba or it sneaks thru the channel and eventually hits Mobile/Pensecola area as a major 125mph hurricane. I'm basing this forecast on a building high.

Going to be a LONGGGG week of watching Gustav on here. I'm personally quite concerned about Gustav and possible impacts on the northern gulf coast early next week. Not good.

ALWAYS post links when you post something such as this!!! You must identify the source. If this is your own thinking then please post more than something like this-give us your justification for your thoughts, if they are your own.

It came directly from the NHC advisory that everyone was quoting from...

Edit: Having searched myself I now know that it comes from the latest NHC discussion. The request I made above is a policy of STORM2K. EVERYONE needs to adhere to this policy please.

Very bad news for someone down the road....All bets are off now with the southern shift GOM BOLO for this one...First area of concern is the islands of Hispaniola and Cuba....after that GOD only knows...
Prayers for a Poof/Storm Cancel allowed on this thread?

Hey Ivanhater hope that Gustav does take not a swipe at you due to that avatar.......
I tried to do the same before I found out it was really you... 8-)

Local ABC affiliate meterologist Bruce Katz just called for Gustav to be a cat 3 in the central gulf. But he also said that he thinks it might continue west. I like the guy... at least he takes chances and shares his honest opinion.

NOT AN OFFICIAL FORECAST but do you all remember when the NHC use to do percentage probability by city? For examble right now IfI had to assign a forecast percentage for final landfall area I would go with...

8% SE FL/East coast
23% FL West coast to Big Bend
35% Pensecola Westward to Nola
27% South Central LA
13% Upper TX/SWLA
18% Mid TX Coast
23% STX/ Northern MX coast

I use to love checking the latest NHC updates and precentages.

Those who want to do personal forecasts,go to the thread at the top of the forum, and by doing that it does not cause more heavy traffic into this main thread.

Looking at where the NHC has Gustav by Saturday at 2pm. A northern Gulf coast impact seems less likely and
NE Gulf coast impact more likely. IMHO
Now if she were coming through the Yucatan channel then it would be a different story. Anyway why be concerned? There
is nothing to worry about right now.

I have a sick sick feeling about Gustav. Even his name gives me the willies for some reason. It's bad enough he will slam into Hispaniola tomorrow, perhaps killing a lot of people. It'll be worse that he'll find his way into the Gulf, making someone's life miserable. This is the time of year when the storms get stronger and more dangerous. Gonna be a LOOONNNNGGGG week I'm afraid.

Well, while I still think the Yukatan is a possibility, if it does follow the track of the NHC down the center and DOES get into the gulf, I can't see it going all the way across the Gulf to landfall in Mexico without finding at least some weakness to pull it north....So if it gets in the gulf, I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that one of the gulf states will get slammed....

Right now (things will change) I don't see a landfall west of AL. if he makes it into the GOM.
