I expect code Red by NHC at the 8pm EST outlook.
If not by then, probably by 2am EST.
Geez -- I did think this thing would take more time to ramp up than this but its really getting going.

This (95L) is the one to watch carefully, KWT. By the way, I appreciate all your great posts. Very informative.

I have not been paying attention to 95L. Why is everyone saying this is a threat to Florida when all of the models disagree? And if it will threaten FL, what part of it will feel the brunt?

sure is gatorcane, quite obvious where the ULL is, heck if this was October we'd be looking for possible development from that as well...but at this time of year its 95L that should develop.
Odds still are that this recurves, esp if it does strengthen like I expect it to, though I think this actually could be a threat to the NE states and newfoundland more than Florida but we will see.

This could be a combo of 2004 and 2005 for Florida. Lie the old Chinese curse "interesting times".
95L looks better than Gustav right now, IMHO.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
800 PM EDT WED AUG 27 2008
FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...
THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL
STORM GUSTAV...LOCATED ABOUT 65 MILES SOUTH OF GUANTANAMO CUBA.
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY HAS BECOME MORE CONCENTRATED THIS EVENING WITH
THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED ABOUT 375 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF
THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED
TO BECOME MORE CONDUCIVE FOR A TROPICAL DEPRESSION TO FORM TONIGHT
OR TOMORROW AS IT DRIFTS NORTHWESTWARD.
A LARGE TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED OVER THE FAR EASTERN ATLANTIC ABOUT
650 MILES WEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS CONTINUES TO PRODUCE
DISORGANIZED SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. SOME SLOW DEVELOPMENT
OF THIS SYSTEM IS POSSIBLE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AT IT MOVES
WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MILES PER HOUR.
ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

Agreed Ed in terms of convection it does look better then Gustav...however I don't think this will have any impact on Florida...but equally the GFDL looks too far east given it takes this to the NW in the next 24hrs, though the ULL will probably help to shift this system a little more to the north of where its been recently.

Based on quickscat and satellite, I would go as far as to say this is as organized as Gustav. I would say within the next 12 hours this will be a depression.
