Interesting - Jamaican radio is now referring to Gustav as a hurricane.

Not so funny article on nola.com....

Workers refill hexobaskets and place sandbags in gaps along the top of the Lake Pontchartrain levee in Metairie on Wednesday. The men were working between Causeway Boulevard and Bonnabel Boulevard.

We will have to wait and see, appears that it may be moving to the north of due west. More than likely. Wait for VDM.

That's 31.9 miles per hour.

No. It was a mistake. You can tell because I don't think the winds are 14.2.5 m/s.

I think the system has jogged northwards looking at the data from recon now, towards that deep burst of convection that has blown up, hardly surprising really as that big burst is showing good outflow.

track still looks pretty much due west but the jog northwards, wonder if its going to the Ivan shuffle!!!

Storms seem to like to dance around Jamaica (reference Ivan and now Gus).

Good article from Houston Chronicle...Shows model errors and what the differences were at this exact stage with Katrina, Wilma, & Rita

Yep sure does look like its wobbling towards the deep convection and around the island to some degree though without a vortex report back the exact center isn't really known. The high resolution vis imagery would suggest this is inland though.

I didnt even know that wind gets reported in m/s. Thats kind of like us reporting wind speed in yards or feet per second isnt it?. Dont see the point.

51 in Haiti is not going to get it done

That said, I expect the number to rise much further in Haiti
