My dad was right...he said the peace would be more dangerous than the war --because afterwords they wouldn't know who was friend and who was enemy (just like Korea was when he was stationed there in the early 1950's).

I'm just thankful the SAM missed it's mark; and hope they catch those responsible quickly.

If the supporters of the old regime had access to a SAM, Stephanie...imagine what is out there that we haven't found yet?

The hunt continues...

You're right Bill - but why didn't we find this one? Did our "intelligence" miss this?

Sigh.... I really don't get it.

Terrorist killed around 3,000 American civilians in 2-3 hours. So, we go to war aginst Afghanastan. Then, we find intelligence that Saddam Hussein is linked to OBL. So, we go to war with 2 countries. BUT, we don't want to hurt civilians. So, after we go in there and free them, they(the civilians still loyal to SH), start killing our Military! Why, why, why do we let them get away with this?? That's when some people say "nuke the whole country"(even though that would get SH too), but we can't do that.

No, it didn't...Saddam was and is a past master of deception, obfuscation and concealment for 12 years....only a very select few (fedayeen Saddam, some Republican Guard commanders, or the dictator & sons themselves) know where all the unfound hardware and "other weapons" are.

Think of Iraq as California, but made up largely of deserts and mountains; play hide-and-seek with someone in that inhospitable environment, and give him a decade to "hide"...and it should be clear to you how difficult it was for the UN teams, satellites, and is now for the ground troops to find a fraction of what Saddam had, and still has hidden.

The hunt continues...

probably a shoulder launched SAM of which the Iraqi military (as well as practically every Tom, Dick and Harry Terrorist Group in the World) has plenty of.

Apparently this is the third such incident since the major part of the war ended. Steve is probably right about it being a shoulder fired missile. They are man portable and only takes seconds to fire. With literally thousands of these in Iraq more of this type of thing is going to happen.
