Interestingly, Local 10 TV in Miami has been coming on live with updates on Ike, twice in the last hour. Also, they are starting the evening news at 4:30 pm instead of 6:00 pm. This station has Max Mayfield and is not given to hype.

Ike looks real impressive right now, though the eye is still a little clouded and looking at certain imagery suggests there is some slight NW shear on the system but the inner core still looks very good and nothing I can see suggests under 120kts at the moment still.

I doubt Hanna's upwelling will cause him to be 115 mph unfortunately. Should stop him from another RI phase but frankly the upper level conditions will be good enough to support a stronger hurricane.

The models show this storm could be a Floyd but worse, skirting even closer up the coast than him.

Is the recurve only possible before it hits FL due to the lifting ULL and High pressure building in, or will that high pressure be "large and in chage" as I once heard it and allow it to continue W along the GOM to Texas/Mexico?

I guess I cold put it this way, is recurving only a possibility before it gets to Florida?
