Just saw that. That statement would include the intellectually disabled sister of my firiend and her animals in San Leon. San Leon is a small peninsula that extends into Galveston Bay. God help her and everyone else who didn't heed the mandatory evacuation orders.

Gene Norman (KHOU) said that Ike has stopped? Coud it be gaining strength or what does that mean

Maybe their HD Doppler fell over

Could it appear that way since the eye is tightening up, so the center of the eye has appeared in the same location when in actuality, the storm has moved, but the eye center (just the position of the center of the eye) moved in the opposite direction while it tightens up?

KHOU met just said Ike has come to a complete stop in the last hour or so. Don't know how reliable he is because he is the one that said Ike was moving about 24-25mph a couple of hours ago.

Also said a 82mph gusts was just reported in Moody Gardens..

Anyone else noticed how nervous the pets are getting here in Houston? My dogs are going crazy, and my quaker parrot won't stop shrieking. It's going to be a long night.

Ch. 11 just said Ike is stalled as of the past hour. Indication of a turn?

A dead stop? That seems unlikely.

I'm watching it on my GRAnalyst but I only have 50 minutes worth of data. But it definately doens't look like it has moved. In addition the eye is becoming clearly visible.

Yeah the eye seems to be tightening up quite neatly on radar, not a good sign with that convective blow up in the SE quadrant.

We did not have the evacuation disaster of Rita. It should be painfully obvious to everyone that anyone who chose not to evacuate made that choice for themselves. The stupid mayor of Galveston arguably encouraged some people to stay with her inept handling of the situation, but there was even time to leave after she made her belated evacuation order.

She's likely to be indirectly responsible for some deaths, but the primary responsibility lies on each adult. Governor Perry has done nothing wrong that I can see.

There have been zero reports of "I tried to evacuate yesterday but I couldn't."

There is some truth to that - on radar, it appears that the storm has moved little in the last 30-45 minutes. The eye appears to be getting a little better organized as well.

The "stop" seems illusory to me and is likely a result of Ike's tightening core. With the squalls filling-in the western storm core it appears that the center is less west than earlier, however the storm is still progressing between WNW and NW per my estimate.

It hasn't stopped. Recon proves that. The eye has tightened up so it is an illusion.

Google Earth showing the bay, including Seabrook I-10 and I-45 - and some other communities. I'm not from around there, never been, so I thought this would help some folks.

My dogs were terrified during Gustav. We had put my terrier in the laundry room (where he normally stays) because of all the people here and he started absolutely freaking out as the eyewall approached. They seem to have the ability to detect big drops in pressure. My lab just sat there shivering most of the time  .

Crap tornado warning just issued right over me!

It's especially silly when they show the roads and there isn't traffic. Yesterday was more traffic, but still not awful. And this morning, there wasn't really traffic anywhere, so no excuse.

Yeah I suspect it is a radar illusion caused by the fact that the eye is tightening up quite well as of this moment.

Main CDO band now just about to move onshore, conditions about to go downhill pretty quickly.

A bit of levity.

Good luck and prayers to Texas, and to the rest of the coastline affected.
