I heard on the CBS station for Houston that there is a trailer home on fire in Baytown. Brennan's in Downtown Houston is on fire and has burned down.

Some menacing looking mesovortices popping up in the eyewall and inside the eye as it makes landfall.

Then the top of the wall is still 16' higher than sea level. The sand could be 8' deep, but the top would still be 16' over sea level. Just means the storm surge has to run up a bit of sand before it hits the wall.

It is Brennan's (sp) resturant...they said that it has burned down and the firefighters are in defense mode (trying to stop it from spreading to other buildings

I see a little wobble, but not a huge one. Still looks generally NNW to me.

I wouldn't call it NNW, I'd say NW. He's going to split about halfway between Jamaica Beach and Sweetwater Lake on the island.

Jamaica Beach is already toast. You can't hurt whats already dead!

It will be interesting to see. All those home are generally on stilts to avoid surge. Me thinks those stilts are not high enough tonight. Jamaica beach is wishing they had a 17 foot Seawall tonight!

And how exactly you know this is false? It's a ctegory 2...you can get category 3 gusts.

For one thing, he wouldn't be able to stand on his feet...it very obvious that anemometer is reporting kilometers, not MPH

It was a gust report from a handheld weather anemometer that could have been stored in the glove box of their truck, for all I know. Not reliable.

IMO, Ike is definitely the strongest he's been in days... storms seem to ramp up in the NW GOM and Ike is following that trend...

Radar shows small mesoscale vorticies rotating around the inside of the eyewall... amazing to watch (watching the radar on MSNBC and CNN)... Ike is one wicked dude right now... serious situation for those who stayed behind in Galveston...

Did anyone catch the streaker on TWC behind the reporter in Beaumont?

Complete idiot but I did have to rewind because I thought I was seeing things. Beaumont power seems to be holding up well so far.

Hey I called that first a couple pages back! Between Jamaica beach and Sweetwater Lake.

You will both win the cash prize for best prediction.
