No doubt they will be in bodybags tomorrow, if their bodies are found that is.

Mike Bettes says he thinks the winds he's been in with Ike are worse than Ivan.

I don't expect it to burst, maybe water will come over the top, but I don't think it will bust. Gods hand is also helping to enforce it.

The sea wall in Galveston serves it's purpose and is only several miles long. Hey, for those of you (including the media) who knock our protection---remember it's federally funded. Keep arguing. We'd love to have a Galveston sea wall around New Orleans.....got a spare $850 Billion to $1.3 Trillon to fund something like that in New Orleans? Bring it on...we'd take it in a heartbeat! :D

The wind is really starting to rip in Houston now. I wonder how all those many thousands of people who didn't board up their windows are feeling now?

The Seawall goes from the extreme East End (at Apfel Park) to 103rd Street (right before Campeche Cove).

As for the Bolivar, all they have are sand dunes. I doubt the elevation of the Bolivar is any different today than it was 108 years ago when The Great Storm flattened it. The Bolivar goes under even during a Cat 1. Edouard put it under about 3-5 feet of surge a few weeks ago. It's not a great place to be when a TC comes through.

Mike Bettis is saying that he was able to record a wind gust to 100mph in Clear Lake.

I definitely believe him based on some of the footage I have seen from his area!

Mike Bettes on TWC just reported 98 and 101 mph wind gust.

Credibility of Bettes / TWC >> Credibility of Geraldo / FNC

Looks like the east wobble wasn't enough to save Galveston Bay. :(

It might make another wobble though.

He actually is saying that these are higher winds than he stood in with Ivan. During Ivan, he said that he went into shelter mode before the winds ever got this strong, so he was never out in them like he is right now.

You can tell that he is suffering based on the live shots. His 100mph+ wind gusts he has recorded are taking a toll. He is having serious problems standing up in this kind of wind. Definitely looks to be more of a struggle than what Geraldo experienced.

Bettes was being beat up by those winds. They looked 80-plus, easy.

What are the odds that my friend's sailboat in Kemah will survive this? The docks there are on posts that can float up 14 or 15 feet. It looks like it is taking a direct hit in the worst way on radar.

He has definitely given us some of the best footage from Ike so far.
