How far above sea level is that hotel that is 6 feet of water at? Also, is that a high point???

The San Luis is elevated (built over an old WWII bunker) but the Holiday Inn is at sea level. All the sewers drain directly to the bay. While the seawall protects us from water coming from the gulf, it does nothing for water coming from the bayside of the island. We drain as quickly as we flood.

pat, evac'd to the shores of Lake Travis.

If you take the tide gauges, then storm surge predictions of up to 30 ft were exaggerated. No, lets see with sunlight if that turns out to be true

So if the surge in Galveston was 12.5 feet then the sea wall was not over-topped right?

Highest recorded storm tide was at Sabine Pass north - at 14.25 Feet above sea level. Galveston Bay max surge was around 12.5 feet above sea level.

Well we made it. Power out (obviously) Lots of tree branches in yard, electric pole knocked over. It seemed the worst part of the storm came around 5:00 am this morning. Winds are still blowing well in to TS strength and rain is horizantal coming down. Can anyone tell me what my winds are N. of Beaumont and has the worst passed?

grandparents in law in galveston at 69th and stewart had 2 feet of water inside their house the last time we talked to them at 1 am.

anyone have any updates from that area?

we are in college station and are just far enough west to be outside the hurricance force winds. We have been steady around 35-40 with gusts to 60 or so, so we hope it stays around that and doesn't get worse.

Anybody have any idea what happened on Galveston Island at 11 Mile Road and 3005? I have some friends there that decided to stay and ride it out. They have a garage with a second floor they were planning to use. Their house is on a concrete slab at ground level. As to be expected I can't get in touch yet.

How is everyone? I am at a friend's near Katy. We have power and all is well! My neighbor from across the street called me and said that the house in Texas City looks fine! No trees crashed down on it!!! :D and believe it or not, I still have power there too!!!! No flooding, lots of tree limbs and debris, but otherwise all is well. I hope for the best for everyone.

The SW quadrant appears to be the strongest at the moment.

Strange things always seem to happen to the structure after landfall. That is NOT good as that is over an area with very high population...

Katy was west of the storm and beyond the eyewall, so it is natural it would be in better shape than most of the rest of Greater Houston.
