Misdemeanor, literally: offensive demeanor (public drunkenness, flashing, etc)

Felony, literally: A FELONY. MURDER RAPE ROBBERY BURGLARY ASSAULT.

Maybe he's hoping for a compromise bill.

Just another way to take away your first amendment rights.

As for the pants, I agree it looks stupid but a felony?

This guy is a disgrace to the United States.

What about my rights not to have to hear cusswords? We had to put filters in chat because of the cussing.

Whichever party he's from, the guy from the other party is probably pumping money into his campaign fund right now.

Class C misdemeanor tickets aren't entirely out of the question. Constitutionally I'd imagine public swearing could be seen the same way as public nudity. But the felony idea is beyond ridiculous.

There are places where cussing shouldn't be allowed (not cussing in a toys r us should be common decency) but making it a felony is IMO absolutely outrageous. It's a word, it won't put a person in the hospital.

I'm sorry, but If it were a felony, I would have been a felon since middle school. Most of the country would have to be charged with a felony.

And people complain that too many people are in prison for drug related crimes...

So where would you put 80% of the states population?

Honestly, with all of the other MAJOR problems going on in this country and probably his state, he's actually going to waste his taxpayer's money on that?

Then again, the tax payers voted him in...

Of course this bill doesn't stand a snowballs chance in (censored) . But then again, we're talking about South Carolina.

I don't like profanity much myself, but to me it's more of a sign of a limited vocabulary than it is an offense to my morals. With some well chosen words, you can offend someone much better than you ever could with profanity.

This senator exceeds those people who resort profanity in terms of mental incompetence.

I believe there exists a law in Mississippi which makes it a misdemeanor to cuss. I think these kind of laws are on the books to enrich government though the collection of fines. Imagine not being able to get a job because you were convicted of cussing. And what if you don't pay the fine? The jail down here is full of criminals, about half of them that can't or will not pay traffic fines, and I as a law abiding citizen are paying for their peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches....MGC

SEC. 97-29-47 Profanity and drunkenness in public. Fine not to exceed $100 with county jail time not to exceed 30 days.

Although.....a man named Orlando Thomas called a judge an S.O.B. after being convicted of public profanity and fined 172.50. The fine immediately changed to $750.00 with 90 days in the county jail.

I agree with Orlando.

I know a man that was caught with over an ounce of marijuana.....which is a felony. His bail was $1000 cash to cover a $10000 bond. He spent one night in jail. He never went to court as the evidence had been lost.

They do whatever they want here in Mississippi.
