Re: Florida Weather Thread: Rainy season is here
Not so fast on getting an east wind pattern to keep the afternoon t-storms away from SE metro areas of South FL.....we may be in this rainy pattern for quite a while if the GFS is correct...
NWS Miami snippet:
EXTENDED FORECAST...
THE LONG RANGE MODELS ARE STILL SHOWING THE RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE
TO BUILD BACK INTO SOUTH FLORIDA FOR THE EARLY TO MIDDLE OF NEXT
WEEK. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR THE STEERING FLOW TO SWING BACK TO A
SOUTHEAST DIRECTION AND SHIFT THE HIGHEST POPS BACK TO THE
INTERIOR AND WEST COAST METRO AREAS.
HOWEVER...THE 00Z GFS NOW SHOWS A CUT OFF LOW DEVELOPING OVER THE
EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO AND MOVING EAST THROUGH SOUTH FLORIDA LATE
NEXT WEEK. AT THIS TIME...WILL NOT BITE INTO THIS MODEL AND KEEP A
SOUTHEAST WIND FLOW OVER THE CWA. HOWEVER...IF THE LONG RANGE
MODELS TREND CONTINUE WITH THE CUT OFF LOW...THEN THERE WILL HAVE
TO BE CHANGES TO THE FORECAST FOR LATE NEXT WEEK FOR SOUTH
FLORIDA.

You don't say! More rain for Southern Florida, what a surprise

At this rate the entire 1/3 part of the peninsula from Lake O south will be underwater by the end of this summer...
I'd say the drought is long gone folks ---

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Rainy season is here
A stationary border is hanging just to our south sending in shower pulses across southern-most Florida yesterday and today. Overcast and cooler today. No rain.

OK so it just started absolutely pouring here at work for no good reason (well I'm sure there is a reason, but I was pretty shocked to see how bad it was so quick). There had been some clouds, just fluffy ones, nothing ominous looking, and I look outside again and its completely whited out. (sr84/turnpike/i-95 aka marina mile). Looking at the radar and there doesn't seem to be much besides a cell that looks to be back building from just offshore. This is a big change from last weeks west to east across the everglades action. THis seems totally seabreeze related.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Rainy season is here
There was some kind of dry air behind that front that raised the sun strength in lower humidity. 102* on car thermometer in Costco parking lot. Cool breezes low 80's on island.

I love when the NWS talks rain for the next weekend. It always ends up nice by then. Should be a nice weekend coming up.

What happened to the pouring rain this afternoon. The NWS keeps putting it off. Why don't they just say 40-60% chance of rain. Every afternoon. All summer. There odds would be much better.

YA THINK???
Update...after some debate in the office... have decided to
drastically cut probability of precipitation down across the County Warning Area for the remainder of the
afternoon and evening... even though the area has cleared from the
earlier convection and a second wave of rain showers and thunderstorms and rain are
developing. The main reason for the slashed probability of precipitation is: storms fired
earlier this morning and with middle and upper clouds held temperatures down
limiting convergence, and also temperatures in the middle levels have
temporarily warmed. Still the best chance of thunderstorms and rain are expected
over the Interior, Lake region, and over Palm Beach County as
storms develop along the West Coast sea breeze and head northeast. /Tingler

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Rainy season is here
Yeah we missed it down here too. 80% POPS with heavy rain in the forecast but today was our first day without measurable precipitation going back to May 14th (unless we get a shower in the next few hours).

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Rainy season is here
Ya they really crapped the bed with the forecast today......esp. for east coast metro areas ( and yes i respect them but they did)
and i think they will do the same tonite with the forecast..(considering they say "AM EXPECTING A TRANQUIL NIGHT OVERNIGHT WITH VFR
PREVAILING." ...they have slight chance tonite for east coast areas.....but i think the warm layer at mid levels may be lifting......a "anomalous trough" is approaching..and i wouldn't be surprised for things to be active tonite.....looks like a line wants to fire off the southern extent of that belle gladed storm that went BOOM around 9pm...
after debate in the office and the puddles in the parking lot decided to up pops from slight chance to scattered for the overnite
